Real Madrid and FC Barcelona will resume their rivalry on Sunday night, and fans can always expect great goals when they tune in to this fixture. With so many of the best players in the world participating, this rivalry always produces extraordinary moments of skill. Here, we take a look at 10 of the most iconic ELCLASICO goals from all of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona’s LALIGA EA SPORTS meetings in the 21st century, a mix of excellent technical strikes and some goals which are iconic because of what they meant for that season’s title race.
2005/06: Ronaldinho (FC Barcelona)
Ronaldinho’s performance at the Bernabéu in the 2005/06 remains one of the most iconic in the history of ELCLASICO. He scored two of the Barça goals in a 3-0 victory and was even given an ovation by the Real Madrid supporters. For the first of his goals, he received the ball inside his own half and proceeded to drive at the Real Madrid defence, evading everyone in his path and firing past Iker Casillas for a very special goal.
2005/06: Ronaldo Nazário (Real Madrid)
In the second meeting between these clubs in that 2005/06 season, Ronaldinho scored again, this time a penalty to open the scoring at the Camp Nou. But, it finished as a 1-1 draw thanks to a sublime chip over Víctor Valdés by Ronaldo Nazário.
2007/08: Júlio Baptista (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid won a second LALIGA EA SPORTS title in a row in 2007/08 and one of the key goals along the way was scored by Júlio Baptista, earning Los Blancos a 1-0 victory away in Catalonia. The Brazilian played a sublime one-two with Ruud van Nistelrooy, with the Dutchman flicking a pass into the penalty area for the Brazilian to power into the goal.
2011/12: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
Moments after Alexis Sánchez equalised for FC Barcelona in a 2011/12 meeting between these two foes, Cristiano Ronaldo put Real Madrid in front again with a goal that would earn them a 2-1 victory, the Portuguese’s first win in a LALIGA EA SPORTS ELCLASICO. The goal was excellently taken, but the celebration made it even more iconic as the No.7 gestured for “calma, calma” (“calm, calm”, in English), much to the fury of the Camp Nou crowd.
2012/13: Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona)
The first meeting between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the 2012/13 LALIGA EA SPORTS season was epic, finishing in a 2-2 draw with a brace each from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Argentinian’s second goal was a masterpiece, as he hit a perfect freekick from deep that left Iker Casillas with no chance of saving it.
2013/14: Alexis Sánchez (FC Barcelona)
When Barça won 2-1 at home against their rivals at the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Alexis Sánchez was the hero for the Catalan side. He scored their second goal of the evening, outmuscling Raphaël Varane at a counter attack before producing a classy chip to ripple the back of the net.
2015/16: Andrés Iniesta (FC Barcelona)
Andrés Iniesta was the kind of player who turned up in the biggest moments and he so often delivered in the biggest rivalry match in European football. When FC Barcelona thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabéu under Luis Enrique in 2015/16, Iniesta scored the pick of the goals when he fired in from the edge of the area following a classy one-two with Neymar.
2016/17: Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona)
As the all-time top scorer in ELCLASICO, it’s logical for Lionel Messi to appear twice on a list of iconic goals. And, in 2016/17, he conjured up one of the most iconic moments in the entire history of this fixture, when he struck a stoppage time goal for a 3-2 win at the Bernabéu, before proceeding to hold his No.10 shirt up to the world.
2021/22: David Alaba (Real Madrid)
David Alaba’s first ELCLASICO was a memorable one, as the Austrian centre-back opened the scoring in a 2-1 Real Madrid victory at the Camp Nou with a beautiful strike. He found himself far forward at a counter attack and took the opportunity with a technically brilliant kick of the ball. That sent Real Madrid on their way to that year’s title.
2023/24: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)
Jude Bellingham is one other player who scored on his maiden ELCLASICO in LALIGA EA SPORTS, in his case netting two goals in a come-from-behind 2-1 win at the Estadi Olímpic at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. The goal he scored to level the game was simply sublime, as he struck a sweet shot from deep to leave Marc-André ter Stegen with no chance, before turning in a stoppage time winner to mark his name in the ELCLASICO history books.
