Aditya Deshmukh: Phone addiction has become very intense

Actor Aditya Deshmukh, who is currently seen in Ghum hai kisikey Pyar Meiin, says that, for him, his phone is very important. He says that this is something he would like to change. “I spend a hell of a lot of time on my phone. Honestly, it’s got really bad, especially on Instagram and social media, WhatsApp. And without a phone, life has become almost impossible, that’s what I believe. Somewhere, I have to tone it down. I have to control it. I won’t say it’s a good addiction or bad, understand that it’s an addiction. But sometimes when something is informative, it turns into an addiction for a special reason. You don’t even realise how time passes. Even during shooting, half the time I’m holding my phone, either playing video games, scrolling Instagram, or doing something on it. So the phone addiction has become very intense, and I spend most of my valuable time on my phone, which is not right,” he says.

The Internet, especially social media, has its benefits. However, overindulging in them is a big problem, he says. “You get a lot of information through the internet. The kind of news that will appear in newspapers the next day, you already find out about it the night before or even earlier. It’s very informative, and we get a lot of updates very quickly. But overindulging is a big problem. I think everything has its pros and cons.”

He adds, “Social media is a problem, but at the same time, it’s not entirely a problem. I can argue both sides because we do spend a huge portion of our day on social media, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp and it often feels like that’s not the right thing to do. That said, social media is also very informative. It helps people get jobs, find out about auditions, and learn things we wouldn’t know otherwise. So you really can’t live without it. It’s become an essential part of life, and you can’t escape it. Right now, social media and the internet are both a blessing and a curse. For some people, it’s a gift, so what can you say? Life without a phone doesn’t exist anymore.”

However, he adds that social media does make us miss out on special moments. “Most of the time, people are capturing stories and making memories through their phones. There was a time when people would bring DSLRs and cameras for photos but now, everyone just uses their phones for everything. Reels get shot, videos get made, and even on shoot locations, we’re busy making stories. But in doing all this, we miss out on a lot of things. We don’t get enough time for ourselves, and that’s a wrong thing. It’s really important to take out time for yourself,” he says. He adds, “The accessibility of phones has made them such an important part of our lives, but it’s also led to some negative impacts. People get upset when calls and messages aren’t replied to on time. We’re so caught up in social media and other activities that sometimes we just don’t feel like replying. And because of that, many relationships like with parents and family suffer. Even on a professional level, not responding on time can damage relationships. So, it’s truly both a blessing and a curse.”
