Amal Sehrawat: Fashion stays with you, no matter how your career evolves

Actor Amal Sehrawat, known for his roles in shows such as Choti Sarrdaarni and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, as well as digital projects such as Vikram Bhatt’s Untouchables, Habib Faisal’s Home, Apoorva Lakhia’s web series Crackdown, and Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya 2 and Sarkar 3, recently walked the ramp for designer JJ Valaya. For Amal, the experience was special as he returned to modelling after several years. The actor looked back on his journey, recalled his experience of wearing JJ Valaya’s creation, and spoke about how the fashion industry has changed over time.

“Modelling will always be a very special part of my journey because it was where everything began for me. Walking the ramp for a designer like JJ Valaya after so many years brought back a lot of memories. It made me realise how much I have evolved, both personally and professionally. His designs have a certain grandeur and timeless elegance, and wearing his creation was a beautiful experience. It was also a reminder that fashion stays with you, no matter how your career evolves,” he says.

Talking about the changes in the fashion industry, Amal believes that social media has transformed the way fashion is presented and consumed. “The fashion industry has become much more dynamic and accessible. Earlier, the focus was largely on designers, fashion weeks, magazines and the runway. Today, social media and digital platforms have completely changed how fashion is presented and consumed. Models are now also personalities and content creators, and there are many more avenues to build a career. However, I believe that while the medium has changed, qualities like individuality, confidence, discipline and the ability to carry a garment with conviction will always remain timeless,” he says.

Amal also shares his admiration for model Noyonika Chatterjee. “Noyonika Chatterjee has always been my favourite model. She has an extraordinary presence on the ramp, with a powerful walk, confidence, attitude and a distinctive personality that make her instantly recognisable. What I admire most is her ability to bring every garment to life while maintaining her individuality. She represents the kind of model who does more than showcase a designer’s creation; she gives it character, emotion and presence,” he adds.

For the JJ Valaya show, Amal wore a blue and teal ensemble that stood out for its contemporary Indian aesthetic. The actor says the outfit’s understated elegance made it special.

“I wore a beautiful blue and teal ensemble by JJ Valaya, featuring a structured bandhgala-style jacket with a distinctive contemporary Indian aesthetic. What I loved most about the outfit was its understated elegance. The colours complemented each other beautifully, and the overall look was sophisticated without being over the top. I have always believed that true style is about carrying an outfit with confidence rather than allowing it to overpower you. This creation struck that balance perfectly, and wearing JJ Valaya’s design on the ramp after so many years made the experience even more special for me,” he shares.
