Amit Das: After Diya Aur Baati Hum; I got lost, didn’t know how to market myself

Actor Amit Das, who has been seen in short films such as Divorce Paper and Main Tumhara as well as Gujarati film Fuleku, says that he took a forced break after his cameo in Diya Aur Baati Hum. He adds that he didn’t know how to market himself at that time.

“I did a cameo in DABH, and after that, I was doing more theatre shows and less commercial work. To be very true, I was very new in the TV industry and I didn’t know how to market myself. I vanished and people forgot. Now I know what I lost,” he says.

Talking about his journey, he says, “My acting career was not pre-planned. It just happened. I remember someone introduced me to Prithvi Theatre and made me feel like I belong to this place. A few months down the line I started performing in Prithvi and my acting career started.”

He adds, “The day I was introduced to Prithvi, I was clear that I wanted to act as it used to give me Sukoon! ‘Once an artist always an artist’.”

Talking about his other acclaimed work, he says, “My short film Divorce Paper was acclaimed and got selected in many short film festivals. Divorce Paper is also featured in Spice jet inflight shows currently. The response was quite unexpected. The Fuleku movie was a game changer for me. Seeing Myself in the theatre, big screen was amazing. The movie was presented by PVR cinemas, so we got good shows and banners everywhere. My banner at Eros and Metro cinemas for a week was nostalgic.”

Discussing his future plans, Amit says, “Currently, I intend to work in television and then transition to the big screen as opportunities arise with interesting characters to portray.”
