Arshi Ghosh, the reigning Miss Transqueen India 2023, is preparing to take the global stage as she represents India at the prestigious Miss International Queen 2024 pageant in August. This international beauty competition, held annually in Pattaya, Thailand, the world’s largest and most recognised pageants for transgender women.
Arshi’s journey to the international spotlight began in New Delhi earlier this year, where she clinched the Miss Transqueen India 2023 title. The national pageant, powered by the Pride Plaza group of hotels, saw fierce competition amongst contestants from across India. Ella Dev Verma and Victoria Taying secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively, in an event judged by a distinguished panel of seven experts.
Miss International Queen, now in its 19th year, aims to promote tourism in Thailand whilst fostering equality and acceptance in society. The pageant offers substantial prizes, with the winner receiving 450,000 Thai Baht (approximately £10,000) along with other valuable gifts and opportunities. Contestants participate in various categories, including evening gown, national costume, and talent competitions.
When asked about her expectations for the upcoming international pageant, Arshi Ghosh shared, “Representing India at Miss International Queen is not just a personal achievement, but a platform to amplify the voices of my trans sisters. I hope to use this opportunity to further the cause of gender sensitisation, especially in rural areas where awareness is most needed. My goal is to make every corner of India, and indeed the world, more inclusive and understanding.”
Reena Rai, founder and director of Miss Transqueen India, expressed her confidence in Arshi’s abilities: “Arshi embodies the spirit of resilience and grace that our pageant stands for. Her win in India was just the beginning. I believe she has the potential to bring home the international crown and, more importantly, to be a powerful advocate for the transgender community on a global scale.”
As Arshi Ghosh prepares to compete against contestants from around the world, she carries with her the hopes and dreams of many. Her participation is not just about winning a title; it’s about breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and paving the way for greater acceptance and equality.
