Artist Sangeeta Babani unveiled her latest sculpture series, ‘Rings: The Cycle of Life’, at Turner Road in Bandra West, Mumbai. Created in collaboration with the BMC H-West Ward, the sculpture was unveiled at the hands of Ashish Shelar - President of BJP Mumbai, in presence of ace actress Shriya Pilgaonkar, philanthropist Dr Aneel Kashi Murarka, singer Ruhan Mahendra Kapoor, Vishvas Mote - Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Zone 3, Asif Zakaria - former H-West Ward Corporator and Swapna Mhatre – Ward 100 Corporator.

Babani’s latest sculpture series is a profound exploration of the cyclical nature inherent in various aspects of life. The artwork features a series of eight ring sculptures, each representing a different element where this cyclical pattern is observed: the rhythmic rise and fall of tides; the life cycle of a tree from seed to fruit; the daily journey of the sun from east to west; and the enduring yet transient life of mountains. These rings symbolise the continuous loops in nature, reminding us that all things in life follow a cycle of beginning, growth, and eventual transformation.

At its core, this artwork is a meditation on the eternal rhythms that shape our existence. Babani’s rings are not just sculptures; they are symbols of the cosmic order that governs all life. They remind us that everything in the universe is part of an unending cycle—birth, growth, decay, and renewal—where each ending seamlessly folds into a new beginning. Through these rings, Babani invites us to contemplate our place within this vast, ever-turning wheel of life, encouraging us to find harmony in the inevitability of change and the constancy of transformation.

“We start at the end and end in the beginning. This sculpture series was created to remind us of the eternal cycles that govern our lives. Each ring represents a moment in this continuous loop, where every ending is just the start of something new. Through this piece, I hope to inspire reflection on the interconnectedness of all things and the beauty found in life’s perpetual rhythm. I’m glad that public art gives me the opportunity to inspire this reflection and connect with people in such a meaningful way,” Babani shared.

Public art plays a vital role in the beautification of Mumbai, transforming the city’s urban landscape into a vibrant canvas that reflects its rich culture and diversity.  Together with the BMC, Babani has earlier made significant contributions to the beautification of Mumbai through her stunning murals and sculptures. Last year, she created a 15-foot-high mural with a powerful message advocating for environmental preservation, which now adorns the underpass at Bandra Reclamation.

For the uninitiated, Babani is known for her contemporary and figurative paintings. She has displayed her works worldwide, with exhibitions in India, London, Paris, Dubai, and more. Her 18-foot installation titled The Lost Art made a significant impact, and in 2017, Babani was awarded for her contributions to contemporary art.
