Atharva speaks about his journey as Baba Saheb in &TV's Bheema!

Atharva, renowned for his compelling portrayal of the titular role in the &TV show Ek Mahanayak: Dr BR Ambedkar, once again embodies the iconic figure in the newly launched social drama, Bheema. In this exclusive interview, the actor shares insights into his journey, challenges, and bond with co-star Tejaswini Singh.

How has your journey been portraying Bhimrao Ambedkar for two and a half years, and now stepping into the role again in ‘Bheema’?
My journey portraying Young Bhimrao Ambedkar has been deeply fulfilling and transformative. Playing him for over two and a half years in ‘Ek Mahanayak Dr BR Ambedkar’ was profound, allowing me to delve into his early life and incredible resilience. Babasaheb isn’t just a character; he’s a beacon of hope and inspiration. Stepping into ‘Bheema’ continues that journey, exploring his growth and societal impact. It’s an honour to portray someone who fought for justice and equality. Babasaheb’s ideals deeply influence me, and I strive to embody his values.

What has been the most challenging aspect of playing young Bhimrao, especially transitioning to Baba Saheb in ‘Bheema’?
Transitioning from young Bhimrao to Babasaheb has challenged me to capture his evolution—from innocence to a determined leader. Understanding Babasaheb’s emotional and intellectual growth was crucial. He guides Bheema (Tejaswini Singh), facing societal challenges, making it essential to convey this evolution authentically.

Were you excited to play the role again?
It is a huge honour to play such an inspiring leader. Over the past two and a half years, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of such an iconic show. When I learned that the makers of Bheema wanted me to portray Babasaheb, I was overjoyed and immediately accepted. This role has been transformative, and I am grateful to continue honouring his legacy through my performance.

What role do you play in Bheema’s life?
Babasaheb serves as a guiding force for Bheema as she fights for her rights and seeks her rightful place in society. The show meticulously captures her battles against the adversities imposed by society. Despite enduring numerous injustices and discrimination, Bheema remains fearless in her pursuit of justice and equality.

Could you tell us about your bonding with Tejaswini and your first day on set?
Tejaswini (Bheema) and I bonded wonderfully! Her enthusiasm and dedication are inspiring. Our first day on set was filled with excitement; her energy made it special. We quickly became friends, sharing stories and laughter. Working with her is a joy, and I look forward to creating more memorable moments on ‘Bheema’.

How do you balance the expectations of portraying such an iconic figure while bringing your interpretation to the role?
Portraying Babasaheb is a responsibility I deeply respect. I stay true to his life and ideals while infusing my perspective. Connecting with his experiences on a personal level helps me convey his emotions authentically. It’s about respecting history yet exploring his human side—his fears, hopes, and triumphs—to resonate with today’s audience.

As a popular Marathi TV actor, how has ‘Bheema’ shaped your career and influenced your future projects?
Bheema has garnered recognition and respect, opening new opportunities. It highlights my inclination toward impactful storytelling that inspires and educates.
