Capella Hotel Group celebrates an outstanding presence across The 50 Best Hotels 2026, with three properties recognised among the world’s top 50: Capella Bangkok has been named No. 2, Capella Sydney No. 16 and Patina Osaka No. 33. Capella Sydney was also awarded Best Hotel in Oceania for the second consecutive year, while Patina Osaka received the Nikka Best New Hotel Award. Capella Hanoi and Capella Singapore were also recognised at No. 81 and No. 97 respectively in the extended 51-100 list.
The fourth edition of The 50 Best Hotels has been announced at an awards ceremony in Paris and features industry-defining hotels spanning six continents worldwide. The awards ceremony once again united the global travel and hospitality community to celebrate the world’s finest hotels. For the first time in Paris, at one of the city’s most unique locations, Les Salles du Carrousel, the event showcased experiences that will inspire consumers, travellers and hoteliers around the globe.
Patina Osaka
For Capella Hotel Group, it was an evening of milestones: Patina Osaka’s The 50 debut following its May 2025 opening, a second consecutive appearance for Capella Sydney – and its recognition as Best Hotel in Oceania in both years – and a third straight year on the list for Capella Bangkok which was ranked No. 1 in 2024.
Patina Osaka, the first Japanese property from Patina Hotels & Resorts, makes its debut in the top 50 at No. 33. The property, which opened in 2025, also received the Nikka Best New Hotel Award, recognising its arrival as one of the past year’s most notable new hotel openings. Marking a new era of transformative luxury in Japan and set within a 20-storey sanctuary, the hotel features 221 rooms and suites that embrace kisetsukan - the Japanese concept of seasonal awareness. Natural wood elements and expansive windows frame views of Osaka Castle Park or Naniwa-no-miya Park, allowing guests to witness the changing seasons from their private retreat.
Capella Bangkok
Capella BangkokPerched on the banks of the majestic Chao Phraya River, Capella Bangkok showcases panoramic river views and an intimate connection to the city’s storied waterfront. Inspired by the spirit of riverside living, the hotel’s 101 suites and villas, including 17 with private jacuzzi plunge pools on their terrace, seamlessly blend timeless elegance with the soul of Bangkok through floor-to-ceiling windows and lush private gardens.

Capella Sydney
Located in the heart of Sydney’s Sandstone Precinct, Capella Sydney occupies the beautifully restored former Department of Education building, originally designed by NSW Government Architect George McRae. Opened in 2023 as the first Capella hotel in Australia, the 192-room hotel brings together heritage architecture, contemporary design and a considered collection of more than 1,400 artworks. From Auriga Spa and its 20-metre heated pool to Brasserie 1930, McRae Bar and Aperture, the hotel offers a series of distinctive spaces and experiences that reflect both the character of the building and the energy of Sydney.
Capella SydneyCapella Hanoi enters the extended list for the first time at No. 81, recognising the property’s distinctive interpretation of Vietnamese culture and heritage. Located in the heart of Hanoi’s Hoàn Kiếm district, the 47-room boutique hotel was designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley and draws inspiration from the grandeur of the Roaring Twenties and the world of opera. Its offering includes the Michelin-starred Hibana by Koki and signature Auriga Spa.
Returning to the extended list at No. 97, Capella Singapore is set within 30 acres of lush grounds on Sentosa Island overlooking the South China Sea. The resort combines restored colonial architecture with contemporary design, with its distinctive Tanah Merah heritage providing a unique setting for a highly personalised stay immersed in nature, culture and refined hospitality.

Patina Tianjin will mark the brand’s debut in China by the end of this year. Capella, meanwhile, will continue its China expansion with the opening of Capella Nanjing, designed by David Chipperfield, the brand’s third property in the country after Shanghai and Tufu Bay. Capella Diriyah in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will then introduce the brand to the Middle East in 2027.
The 50 Best Hotels 2026 was revealed as part of a live countdown from No. 50 to No. 1. The ranking is complemented by a series of special awards alongside the extended 51-100 list and reflects the very best travel experiences around the globe, collated from the votes of more than 800 anonymous experts. This voting panel – The 50 Best Hotels Academy – comprises a balanced mix of hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and seasoned luxury travellers, led by a group of industry-leading Academy Chairs.
