There is a certain strength in being alone, and Harpal Singh Sokhi understands this deeply. His life is usually full of energy, people, and constant movement, but he has learned that stepping away from it all is just as important.
Talking about why more people today are choosing solo experiences, he shared that being alone gives a sense of freedom. “People prefer travelling solo, and even isolation is something I prefer, so I can have my own space, my own thoughts, and my own area,” he said. According to him, this mindset is especially common among the younger generation. When you are alone, there is no baggage, no waiting for anyone, and no restrictions—you can simply live in the moment.
For him, this idea is not new. It comes from his own experiences. He recalled a thought that stayed with him: “If anyone can watch a film alone, that means they can do anything alone in life.” He followed this belief during his early days working in restaurants in Colaba, when he would go and watch films by himself.
He also feels strongly about how society views people who choose to be alone. According to him, judging someone for being alone is unfair. Whether it is sitting quietly in a garden, enjoying tea in the mountains, or spending time by the sea, doing things alone should not be seen as strange—it should be respected.
For Chef Harpal, solitude is where clarity begins. Spending time alone helps a person disconnect from responsibilities and noise. It allows the mind to slow down and find calm. He believes that this quiet time is important to stay balanced and peaceful.
Given his popularity, moments of solitude have become even more valuable to him. Whenever he steps out, people want to meet him, talk to him, and take pictures. While he appreciates the love, he also feels the need to step back sometimes. Being alone gives him the space to think and recharge.
There are days when he completely disconnects. He stays in his hotel room, avoids work, and simply rests. No emails, no distractions—just time to let his mind and body recover from the constant rush of life.
At the core of his thoughts is a simple belief: being comfortable in your own company is not loneliness, it is strength. It builds confidence, helps you think clearly, and makes you more aware of yourself. It teaches patience and helps you stay strong in your beliefs.
