Chiva-Som Hua Hin Celebrates International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem

To celebrate this year’s International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, pioneering transformative wellness destination, Chiva-Som Hua Hin, took further significant steps towards environmental sustainability. On July 26, 2024, the team from Chiva-Som, along with local youth, planted 500 mangrove trees at the Krailart Niwate Mangrove Project. This annual mangrove reforestation initiative underscores Chiva-Som’s commitment to sustainability and highlights the vital role of mangroves in preserving Hua Hin’s and the world’s ecosystems.

Chiva-Som Hua Hin has a long-standing tradition of celebrating the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem by planting additional mangrove trees at the Krailart Niwate Mangrove Ecosystem Preservation Project, the last urban mangrove forest in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. This year, Chiva-Som enhanced its efforts by involving youths from the local community in the initiative. Twenty students from the local Wat Nong Kae Municipal School participated in planting 500 mangrove trees, representing 10 different species. This effort aims to foster conservation awareness among the younger generation. Vaipanya Kongkwangyuen, General Manager, Win Rojanastien, Operations Manager as well as the dedicated sustainability team of Chiva-Som Hua Hin, along with members of Preserve Hua Hin, also joined the day’s activities.

The Krailart Niwate Mangrove Ecosystem Preservation Project is a collaborative effort between Chiva-Som, the Preserve Hua Hin Group led by Krip Rojanastien, Chairman of Chiva-Som International Health Resorts, under the royal patronage of HRH Princess Maha Sirindhorn, Hua Hin Municipality, and Silpakorn University. Together, they transformed what was once a wasteland into a peaceful and flourishing eco-sanctuary for residents and visitors alike. Since 2007, over 12,000 mangrove trees have been planted in 7 acres area, and a 1,000-metre elevated boardwalk allows visitors to explore the reserve and enjoy the healing qualities.

In conjunction with this year’s International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, Chiva-Som also organised a visit to Pran Buri Forest Park for 80 members of the 13th Junior Ambassadors of The Preserve Hua Hin Group. The group engaged in activities focused on restoring and conserving natural resources, such as mangrove and beach forest ecosystems, with initiatives including beach reforestation and releasing blue crabs into the wild.

Throughout its nearly three decades of existence, Chiva-Som has upheld the vision that ‘wellness must go hand in hand with sustainability.’ This vision is infused not only into the guest journey at the resort but also into its daily operations and outreach to local communities.
