Citywide and Worldwide Programmes for Sadhu Vaswani’s 60th Punyatithi

Sadhu Vaswani Mission observed the 60th Punyatithi (death anniversary) of revered saint and humanitarian Sadhu Vaswani with a series of spiritual programmes held on January 16-17, at its headquarters in Pune. On both days, the Mission’s hospitals and clinics offered concessions to mark the Punyatithi. Earlier, a week-long programme included multiple satsangs and kirtan-sessions, which witnessed large-scale participation, conducted across the city (in Aundh, Wanowrie, and Pimpri), and worldwide at its international centers.

January 16—the sacred day marking Sadhu Vaswani’s passing—was marked with a Prabhat Pheri (morning procession) at 6am through the streets of Pune Camp. Devotees gathered in large numbers to participate in the early-morning procession, walking in remembrance. “The Mission’s many Prabhat Pheris—especially the Mahayagna one, as it marks the beginning of the year—fills me with a fresh spirit every time. It works better than any New Year resolution,” said a participant. Havans, satsangs, and kirtans continued at the Mission, extending till midnight. Didi Krishna, Global Head of the Mission, said in her talk that Sadhu Vaswani taught—and lived—the truth that what the world needs today are humble hearts, not grand or showy acts. She added that it is the human ego that distances one from God, and that humility is a vital step on the spiritual path, drawing the seeker closer to Him.

On January 17, the observances continued with another discourse by Didi Krishna Kumari, along with havan and satsang at the Mission. Devotees from across the world gathered for the observances and for the langar. “Sadhu Vaswani’s presence was—and continues to be—a blessing to this city and its people. His life and message still inspire me, and countless others around me,” said Pramod. Commemorating the hour of Sadhu Vaswani’s funeral rites, a special satsang was conducted. This was followed by the illumination of Sadhu Vaswani Chowk and Sadhu Vaswani’s samadhi with hundreds of lamps, reflecting the Light he carried within and offered to the world.

In keeping with Sadhu Vaswani’s message of “service to the poor,” grocery essentials were distributed to many needy families. Free health and eye check-up camps were conducted in remote and rural regions of Raigad, and sweaters were distributed to village schoolchildren.
