Dipshikkha Naggpal: Celebrities make weddings seem like a film, award functions

Dipshikkha Naggpal says that celebrity weddings are nothing less than high-budget sequences in films. However, the actress, who is known for her shows Shaktimaan (1997), Son Pari (2000), Shararat (2004) and Baa Bahoo Aur Baby (2005), adds that this is justified as they earn so much as well.

“They have to do it because it’s part of their profession. So, they make weddings like a film, like an award function. I’ve attended so many weddings, and I think about how much money they spend on this. But for them, it’s their money; they earn it, so they can spend it on making their daughter’s or son’s wedding lavish. It depends on the individual and how you want to get married. Everybody has had this image from childhood—marriage is a big event in your life. People celebrate it in their way. Earlier, people used to invite actors, but now even families perform and manage everything themselves. The memory is the most important thing—the moment. I can’t comment on anyone else’s choices. They earn for themselves, so it’s their choice to spend it how they want,” she says.

According to a recently released statistic, there will be around 48 lakh marriages in India in the next 60 days. Reacting to the same, she says, “This is the trend I think, which has been going on for a long time. Congratulations to people who are starting a new life, as marriages are beautiful. I believe in the institution of marriage; it is the most beautiful thing. The only thing you need is the right person at the right time. Then, marriage is beautiful; otherwise, it’s a disaster."   Talking about how weddings have become more elaborate over the years, she says, “It’s been said since childhood that the groom will come on a white horse, and I even dreamt of that! I’m Punjabi and Gujarati, so I had a big five-day-long wedding and functions. But yes, now it all depends on how they want to do it. Earlier, weddings were about two people and just two stamps on their relationship. Now, with the social media world, people follow these trends with full photoshoots and everything. But I respect those who want a simple wedding. Because for me, spending so much money isn’t necessary. If you ask me, at my daughter’s wedding, I would rather give her a house or something for her future rather than spend so much on a wedding. That’s what I believe. In the end, it’s her choice, and whatever makes her happy is what matters. But I would prefer a simple wedding.”   She adds, “The best wedding, according to me, is one that is very intimate. I like it that way. If you ask me, the fairytale wedding was for a lot of people, like Alia and Ranbir, but for me, I love Deepika and Ranveer. I think they are made for each other. They are the perfect couple in the sense of their personalities and performances. It was like a king and queen getting married, and I love Deepika no matter what. I also love Ranveer because he adores Deepika, and that just melts my heart for him. I think that wedding was straight out of a fairy tale!”
