Lifeline, a film that showcases the conflict between modern science and tradition, has received immense acclaim, bagging 11 international awards. The movie, which uniquely addresses the issue of organ donation, has resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike. Esteemed doctors and viewers have praised the film and its director for their sensitive and impactful portrayal of this critical subject.
The film delves into the contentious battle between doctors and traditional funeral service providers (Kirwant) over organ donation. The Kirwants, who rely on performing last rites for their livelihood, face a dilemma: if organ donation becomes widespread, it could threaten their way of life. Lifeline aims to challenge and change this mindset.
Director Saahil Shirwaikar not only spreads awareness about organ donation through his film but also leads by example. He has completed the official organ donation process himself, and many team members, including Madhav Abhyankar, have followed suit.
Speaking about the film, Saahil Shirwaikar said, “It’s heartening to see the overwhelming love from the audience. Even in areas like South Mumbai, ‘Houseful’ boards are visible outside theaters. Organ donation is a very serious subject, and it’s crucial to dispel the myths surrounding it. By using entertainment as a medium, we can effectively reach a broad audience. That’s why I chose this topic for my debut film. Our entire team has pledged to donate organs. I’m confident that viewers will be deeply moved by this film.”
The story, screenplay, and dialogues of Lifeline are penned by Rajesh Shirwaikar. The film stars Ashok Saraf, Madhav Abhyankar, Hemangi Kavi, Bharat Dabholkar, Jaywant Wadkar, Sharmila Shinde, Sandhya Kutte, and Sameera Gujar in significant roles.
