In a village where superstition shapes fate and silence is expected from women, one girl dares to ask — WHY? ZEE5’s upcoming Marathi original series, Baai Tujhyapayi, captures this defiance and the power of education to spark change. The series will premiere exclusively on ZEE5 on 31st October 2025. Directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and produced by Sixteen by Sixty-Four Productions, the series is written by Nikhil Khaire and Mukta Bam and stars Sajiri Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Siddhesh Dhuri, and Shivraj Waichal in pivotal roles.
Set in the year 1990, in a fictional village of VesaichaVadgaon, Baai Tujhyapayi follows Ahilya (Sajiri Joshi) — a spirited young girl who dreams of studying despite the centuries-old customs that forbid girls from doing so. Her quiet rebellion against blind faith and patriarchal norms becomes a beacon of hope for an entire community trapped in tradition.
The trailer offers a glimpse into this deeply emotional and authentic world — where powerful performances, meticulous detailing, and a heartfelt narrative come together to celebrate the indomitable spirit of a girl who refused to give up on her dreams. Baai Tujhyapayi is not just a story about one girl’s fight for education — it’s a story about breaking barriers, reclaiming voice, and redefining what it means to be free.
Coinciding with the trailer launch, Baai Tujhyapayi came alive in Dombivali with a heartfelt on-ground celebration at the annual Dombivali Diwali Pahat. Held on Phadke Road, the event saw the presence of lead actors Sajiri Joshi and Kshitee Jog and drew an enthusiastic crowd that resonated with the show’s core message of courage and change. The highlight was a powerful nukkad natak inspired by the series, capturing Ahilya’s fight against blind faith and her pursuit of education, followed by the symbolic #MePanAhilya movement where young girls dressed as Ahilya stood together to celebrate empowerment and resilience. The activity concluded with a public showcase of the trailer, giving audiences a glimpse into the world of Baai Tujhyapayi.
Director Nipun Dharmadhikari said, “Baai Tujhyapayi is an important story because it asks questions that are still relevant. Through Ahilya’s courage, we explore how belief systems evolve when confronted by truth. The trailer gives just a glimpse of the world we’ve built – one rooted in tradition but yearning for change. ZEE5 is a great platform to showcase this powerful story.”
Kshitee Jog, who essays the role of Ahilya’s mother Lakshmi, shared, “Lakshmi stands at the intersection of faith and love – a mother torn between what she’s been taught and what she feels is right for her daughter. Baai Tujhyapayi beautifully captures that inner conflict, and I think many women will see a part of themselves in her. It’s a must-watch and I am excited that it’s releasing on ZEE5 for the whole nation.”
Speaking about the trailer, Sajiri Joshi, who plays Ahilya, said, “Ahilya’s story is not just about rebellion, it’s about hope. She represents every girl who has ever been told ‘you can’t.’ Portraying her journey was deeply emotional because it reminded me how education can truly change destinies. I’m proud to be part of a show that speaks to both the heart and conscience, and truly happy that it’s coming on ZEE5 for the national media.”
With its evocative visuals, rooted characters, and empowering message, Baai Tujhyapayi stands as a poignant reminder that change begins with one voice that refuses to stay silent.
