As the Lord of all Gods prepares to bless us this year, the festive season invites us to make mindful and responsible choices.
With Love NGO, Pune, recently organized an inspiring eco-friendly Ganesha-making workshop to encourage Pune’s citizens to sculpt their own Ganpati Bappa idol using shaadu mati. This clay is known for its quick dissolution, making it an environment-friendly alternative with a low carbon footprint.
“The response was overwhelming,” shared Dimple Somji, founder of With Love NGO. “Seeing so many parents and children come together to create something that honors both our tradition and our planet is truly heartwarming. This workshop wasn’t just about making an idol; it was about instilling a love for Mother Earth in the younger generation.”
Among the enthusiastic participants were patients from Prakash Holistic Health Care Center. Dr Nidhi, who organised the event at her centre, remarked, “This activity was therapeutic for our patients, helping them connect with nature while also engaging in a meaningful cultural practice.”
The event was also hosted at the Castle Royale Society’s clubhouse, fostering community bonding and bringing families together in support of this green initiative.
Laughter and creativity filled the air as families sculpted their idols, each piece representing a shared commitment to a greener world.
Beyond the clay and colors, the workshop taught children a valuable lesson in social responsibility. They learned that bringing a smile to their own faces should also mean bringing joy to others. For every idol made, one family in need will receive a ‘Joybag’ filled with essential food grains, ensuring their festivities are stress-free and full of smiles.
“This initiative is close to our hearts,” Dimple added. “We believe that teaching our children the importance of sustainability and social responsibility in a fun and engaging way is crucial. With learning, laughter, and philanthropy, this workshop became a symbol of unity.”
