Gulfam Khan Husaain who is currently seen in Dhruv Tara - Samay Sadi Se Pare, says that while it can be tough to learn long monologues and dialogues, she has a trick up her sleeve which always works. She adds that she picked up this trick in her theatre days, and it has always worked for her.
“I have a trick that I learnt during my theatre days, read the lines without any emotions thrice, then with emotions. You will mostly get it. If it still does not happen, write the lines down, your memory registers writing more than reading,” she says.
She adds, “Also, try to get it right in one take. Not only dialogues, heavy emotions are easier if done in one take, sometimes your conviction lacks in later takes.”
Meanwhile, the actress adds that playing negative characters is more versatile. “Negative characters have layers, as we say more ‘masala’ there are shades of anger, negativity, frustration, cunning etc. I enjoy my negative characters,” she says.
Talking about the hate that you endure from the audience when you play a negative character, she says, “Take it with a smile, I have instances where people have called and abused me… It only shows you were successful at portraying the character.”
She adds, “I am one of those people who get affected by a characters I play, for Instance when I was playing ‘Nanno’ in Naamkarann, I got attached to the youngsters in real life too (and it still remains the same) and when I was doing Aladdin I did all silly physical stunt on my own so I used to come home drained… I enjoy both of these. They are good stresses."
