Actor Gurpreet Singh, currently seen in the show Vanshaj’ says that while people may assume that actors have a lot of money, this might not always be true. He adds that showbiz is highly unpredictable in terms of cash flow.
“Acting can be a rollercoaster ride! The hours can be long and the preparation intense, but it’s all part of the journey. The rewards can be amazing, not just financially, but also in the satisfaction of bringing a character to life. So, yes, the hard work is definitely justified,” he says.
He adds, “It seems like everyone thinks we’re swimming in cash, but it’s not always like that! There can be dry spells, and not all projects pay the same. I try to keep it real with family and friends and make sure they understand it’s not always glitz and glam.”
Talking about his most challenging show, he says, One of my toughest gigs was playing Sujal in ‘Kahin To Hoga.’ Can you imagine working 20 hours a day? It was a challenge, but it shaped me into the actor I am today. Another memorable role was King Ambiraj in ‘Porus.’ It was a real workout! Between swimming, sword fighting, horse riding, and gymming, I was pretty much in warrior mode the whole time. It was a blast though, and it really pushed me to grow as an actor.”
As for his first salary as an actor, he says, “My first pay cheque was a big deal for me. I remember giving it to my mother, who was so proud. It was a special moment.”
Ask him if he has ever taken on more work to earn money on the side, and he says, “Sure, I’ve done it to keep things fresh and to make ends meet during the quieter times. It keeps life interesting and helps me hone my craft. Life has thrown some curveballs my way, especially after my separation in 2010. I had to shift focus to manage property issues and court proceedings. It’s been a learning experience, that’s for sure!”
He adds, “I’m all about balance. I want to enjoy life now, but I’m also mindful of saving for the future. It’s about being smart and planning ahead while still enjoying the moment!”
