Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath recently shared that he suffered a mild stroke. Producer Herumb Khot says that in today’s times, social media has become a hub of advice which might not even be authentic.
“Welcome to the world of social media where everyone is an influencer and wants to share their pearls of ‘unwanted’ wisdom on various platforms, just because they can. People and celebrities are talking about various medical procedures done on themselves, promoting quick fixes to look good and get fit. Imagine this some gullible viewer in some corner of the world religiously following it expecting results. This is what it’s come to these days,” he says.
He adds, “Actually worse than the suggestions, are the parameters of beauty these influencers are trying to establish. Thin, fair and product-infused hair and the usage of fancy brands have become the standards of beauty now. Yes, people post some random strange quick fixes to attract more views and likes without a care of what it will do to people who will follow this.”
He adds that people blindly follow influencers, which is also wrong. “The audience is to blame equally. We have to stop judging just by what is projected on social media. Reality is different. Nothing should be done without medical advice. I have lost someone I know who took fat reduction pills that lead to a stroke-induced coma.”
Talking about who he looks up to on social media, he says, “I don’t follow anyone’s advice blindly as such but do follow a few qualified medical practitioners like Dave Asprey, Hubermanlab, Vidyut Jammwal and Dr Palmanickam for educated opinions.”
Herumb Khot is currently the producer of Dabangii: Mulgi Aayi Re Aayi along with Nilanjana Purkayasstha under Invictus T Mediaworks.
