With news spreading faster than ever, actor Hirav Mehta who is seen in the movie Dhurandhar The Revenge shares how his habits have shifted. He used to read the newspaper every morning, but now he checks updates on his phone. He says this has been a major change.
“Earlier, I used to rely a lot on newspapers and TV bulletins. Reading the newspaper every morning was a habit,” he shares. “But now, with social media, most of the news is right there on your phone. That habit has been reduced quite a bit.”
While he acknowledges the convenience of digital platforms, Hirav is cautious about their reliability. “News on TV and in newspapers is usually well-researched and trustworthy. But on social media, you can’t always believe everything because fake news spreads very easily,” he says.
Hirav says that having access to news at any time helps people learn more, but it also brings challenges. Now, people know what is happening everywhere, not just close to home. However, it can feel overwhelming, and you often see news you might not care about.
With platforms like X (formerly Twitter) becoming major sources of updates, Hirav emphasizes the importance of verifying information. “I always make sure I’m reading from credible and verified sources. But many people, especially older audiences, tend to believe whatever they receive on WhatsApp, which can be risky.”
He also notes that news today includes more opinions than before. In the past, news was more serious and straightforward. Now, there are many viewpoints mixed in. This can help people see different sides, but it can also be confusing.
Even though he uses new platforms, Hirav says he misses the detail of old-style journalism. Important stories can get lost now because updates come so quickly. In the past, news was explained in more depth, which made it more meaningful.
To maintain balance, he sticks to a mindful routine. “If I have time, I still try to read the newspaper, or I rely on credible apps and e-papers. That helps me stay informed without feeling overwhelmed,” he adds.
