When Indian Hollywood actor Neetu Chandra made her Bollywood debut, no one had anticipated even in their wildest dreams that the actress would become a global phenomenon. Her filmography is a perfect example of how talent transcends boundaries and languages. Be it Bollywood, Tollywood, Hollywood or her latest project, a musical play, Umrao Jaan Ada: The Westend Musical, Neetu has paved her way to stardom, and did that on her own terms.
Over the years, she took up subjects that were beyond being a true-blue commercial cinema. Her performance in films such as
Traffic Signal, Rann, Satyameva Jayate or Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! received critical acclaim and proved she’s here to stay and conquer. A look at her filmography, and you’d realise how her choices have been a perfect blend of entertainers as well as socially driven films, which also say a lot about the kind of artist she is and the kind of work she wants to be known for. Her Hollywood debut Never Back Down: Revolt worked as a fresh look at the actress as a rising action diva.
Neetu said, “It’s a matter of pride for me to represent India at a global level. In addition to my work in Hollywood projects, Umrao Jaan Ada is my heartfelt presentation of a small part of Indian culture for an international audience. The response is truly overwhelming with people all over the world wanting to be present for the shows that will soon follow. This is only the beginning, I have many more frontiers to conquer!”
Her recent project Umrao Jaan Ada: The Westend Musical is yet another reminder to Bollywood and her fans that she’s a force to be reckoned with. The play, which had its premiere in Ahmedabad earlier this month, received standing ovation, which in itself proves how Neetu has the prowess to hold the whole theatre together. In fact, with the portrayal of Umrao Jaan Ada, Neetu proved that while she is known for a certain genre of cinema, she hasn’t forgotten the ada and nazakat that Bollywood needs. Now, her fans are eagerly waiting to witness what else she has to offer
