Indian-origin Canadian lawyer launches SongProof

India is a land of music and songs. From folk songs to Bollywood songs, regional songs, and endless covers, the country has a song being created in every corner. However, protecting those songs has been a problem that most of the artists, be they local, aspiring, or established, struggle with. Indian-origin Canadian entertainment and IP lawyer Hina Rizvi has the solution for it—SongProof. The platform is already being used by creators across North America, Europe, and Africa, and it is now finally available in India.

With SongProof, musicians can instantly copyright their music for a minimal charge of Rs.100. Singers, lyricists, composers, and producers can now secure permanent proof of authorship—locked into the Bitcoin and Polygon blockchains—within minutes. It’s fast, affordable, and impossible to tamper with, making it a breakthrough for India’s music community.

“For the first time, a young singer in Mumbai, a hip-hop producer in Shillong, or a folk vocalist from a small town in Tamil Nadu can protect their work before anyone else hears it. India’s talent is extraordinary. What has been missing is affordable, immediate protection that gives creators real power," Rizvi said.

According to Asjad Nazir, a UK-based journalist and one of the most respected voices in South Asian entertainment, shared, “When it comes to copyright, India has always been lawless. Some of the biggest Bollywood music producers since the 1950s have stolen melodies without permission. SongProof is the first affordable option that gives definitive, timestamped proof—there has been nothing like it. Now, hopefully, those who steal others’ work will think twice.”

SongProof makes copyrighting possible through cryptographic fingerprinting linked directly to the audio file. Once created, that record cannot be changed, removed, or backdated—even by the creator. It is permanent and globally recognized.

Although SongProof is used worldwide, the India launch is especially meaningful to Rizvi on a personal level. She said, “India gave me everything. My family is from Lucknow, and bringing this technology back home—especially for creators from small towns who often go unnoticed—feels incredibly special.”
