Ishika Shahi: Audiences Today Crave Relatable And Emotionally Honest Stories

Creator and writer Ishika Shahi believes the digital revolution has changed the way people view creativity, storytelling, and talent. Known for creating Heer Sharma Gayi and Jabb Zodiacs Met on the Directors Kut Production YouTube Channel, Ishika says social media has made creative expression more accessible than ever before.

Speaking about the rise of digital content, Ishika shares that creativity is no longer confined to television or films. “Today, anyone with an idea and determination can create content and showcase their talent online,” she says. According to her, platforms like Instagram and YouTube have given people the confidence to experiment with storytelling and present their work directly to audiences without waiting for traditional opportunities.

At the same time, Ishika admits that the influencer-driven culture has also brought pressure within the entertainment industry. She explains that actors today are often expected to maintain a strong online presence alongside their professional work. “Not every actor naturally enjoys social media, but digital visibility has become an important part of the industry now,” she says. Ishika adds that on platforms like YouTube, familiar faces and influencers are often preferred because audiences are more likely to engage with people they already recognise. This shift, according to her, has encouraged many actors to become content creators as well.

Talking about the kind of content that captures her attention online, Ishika says emotionally impactful and informative videos resonate with her deeply. She reveals that emotional animal-related videos have personally influenced her perspective and made her rethink certain habits in life. “Content that emotionally moves me or teaches me something meaningful stays with me for a long time,” she shares. Alongside serious content, she also enjoys humorous videos, calling laughter one of the best stress relievers after a hectic day.

Opening up about her writing process, Ishika candidly says creative burnout is a reality every writer faces. She explains that while some stories require detailed planning and structure, others evolve naturally during the writing journey itself. During phases of exhaustion, she chooses not to force creativity. Instead, she spends time consuming films, shows, and different forms of art to recharge her mind. She also credits her father for constantly motivating her to keep learning and observing life, something she believes is essential for growth as a writer.

When discussing modern content trends, Ishika believes aesthetics and storytelling play different roles on different platforms. According to her, Instagram relies heavily on visual appeal because strong aesthetics help creators connect with audiences and perform better through the algorithm. However, she feels YouTube audiences continue to value storytelling above everything else.

Most importantly, Ishika strongly believes that today’s viewers are searching for authenticity rather than unrealistic perfection. “Audiences now connect more with grounded characters, real struggles, and emotionally honest stories,” she says. She adds that fantasy-driven narratives may still entertain people, but relatability creates a much deeper emotional impact because viewers want stories that genuinely reflect their own lives and emotions.
