In Zee Marathi’s new show Sanai Choughade, actor Raj Hanchanale will be seen in a powerful and stylish lead role. His character, Jay Khanolkar, is strong, disciplined, and equally emotional. Speaking candidly about the role, the audition process, his co-actors, and his acting journey, Raj shared:
“My character’s name is Jay Khanolkar. He is very honest, disciplined, and has a bit of attitude. At first glance, he may seem short-tempered, but he is very soft-hearted. Only three women matter in his life – his grandmother, mother, and sister. He firmly believes in focusing on work without getting distracted by other things. He has built his own world from scratch through hard work, so he is proud of it, but not arrogant. He is straightforward, outspoken, and work-focused. In his office, female employees are not allowed to work. There are many secrets in his life, which will gradually unfold as the show progresses.
When I was selected for this role, I received a call from the production house for an audition. I was very excited to hear that Raju Sawant is the director and producer, that this is their first serial, and that it will air on Zee Marathi. That combination sounded amazing. I sent my first audition from home, and everyone liked it. After that, I was called to the set for three to four more rounds along with co-actors. This was a different experience for me, because earlier I would usually get selected in one or two auditions. For this role, there were four to five audition rounds. At that time, I had some questions in my mind, but looking back now, I feel they made thorough efforts to select the right actor. I’m happy to have been part of that process.
Physical and mental preparation is important for any role. Jay is a strong and impactful lead character. I am working especially on his body language, swagger, attitude, and style. Since he manages an empire built through his own hard work, it is necessary for his personality to reflect authority and charm. I discuss the character in detail with the director to develop it better. Though he appears strict, it’s important to show that he is loving at heart.
My earlier roles were more emotional and serious in nature, with rural dialects and simple body language. Jay Khanolkar is completely different. His walk, speech, and posture are all distinct. I believe the audience will definitely like this transformation.”
The promo has received a great response. The cast, concept, and Jay’s entry have been appreciated by viewers. Raj received many messages for the dialogue “Swaminchi Ichha” (By God’s will). The line written on the rickshaw, “Don’t be afraid, I am with you,” also touched many hearts. Audiences are eagerly waiting for the show, and the team promises to meet their expectations.
