Jayati Bhatia has always believed that cinema can be a powerful medium for awareness, and with Condumb, produced by Janvi Doshi and Kaushik Thakkar, she hopes to bring attention to an issue that affects communities across social and economic backgrounds.
The actor, who has worked closely with director Kaushik Thakkar over the last one-and-a-half years, shared that her association with him began through a devotional project for Kanha Universe. Their collaboration later extended to the food-based digital show Chatori Jayati, where the duo bonded over their shared love for food and storytelling.
“Working with Kaushik has been a wonderful experience. He is passionate about his ideas and genuinely committed to telling stories that make a difference. During one of our discussions for Chatori Jayati, he narrated the concept of Condumb to me, and I immediately realised that it was a subject people rarely address despite encountering it in real life,” she said.
Jayati feels the film’s message became even more relevant recently when a close friend shared a personal experience on social media. According to her, the incident highlighted how irresponsible behaviour can impact others, regardless of where they live.
“Just recently, a doctor friend posted a photograph showing a used condom that had landed on the plants in his balcony from an upper floor. He lives in a very well-known residential area in Mumbai. It made me realise that if such things can happen in highly educated and affluent communities, then imagine what people in other neighbourhoods must be facing,” she said.
She believes that civic responsibility goes beyond keeping one’s own home clean. It also involves respecting shared spaces and understanding how individual actions affect others.
“That is exactly why Condumb is important. The film talks about awareness, hygiene, responsibility and respect for people around us. These are basic values, but sometimes they get overlooked in everyday life,” she said.
