What inspired you to transition from acting to sound healing? Was there a specific moment or realization that led you down this path?
I think it happened quite organically for me. After I had my daughter, I think I became a little more spiritually inclined. And when she was four years old, I experienced my first sound bath with her. It had a very, very profound effect on me. It really affected me in a very beautiful way. And I felt like a lot of stuff that I was holding on to, a lot of emotions which were kind of stuck inside me came out in that session. It was such a beautiful release that I kind of, I don’t know, it just instinctively happened that I felt like this is something I would love to learn. And I would love to facilitate for other people who like me, might be dealing with certain life situations which might be too heavy for them to handle.
Once I had that thought, things just kind of fell in place, you know, somehow. I met the team that I work with now and I did a course with them and I started working with them. And it’s just been a beautiful journey ever since.
A memorable experience you’ve had while practicing sound healing
The first sound bath that I ever received was at a time when I was going through a challenging time in my life and I feel like all of that stress and pent up suppressed emotion was wrecking havoc in my body and I was struggling with a lot of health issues. I feel like I received the sound bath and something opened up in me. I experienced a very beautiful release That’s when I decided to delve deeper into. As it was so deeply therapeutic to me. Since I’ve been facilitating these sessions, I’ve had so many people come up to me after a session sometimes just hug me and cry. Some share their experiences and how they were feeling so much lighter. When people share these things it just kind of validates why I’m doing this and it just feels very very fulfilling and nice.
As a mother, how has your perspective on life and career evolved over the years?
My daughter is six and my perspective on everything has completely changed. Very often, I say that I gave birth to my spiritual guru because I feel like she is such an old soul, very wise. Sometimes, there are things she says to me, which are just so profound and I don’t think she even realises.
I have realised the most since becoming a mother is that I want to give her all the time that I possibly can, while she is still young and needs me. You know this kind of work is so beautiful because I can take her along with me and she’s generally a very Zen person. Since I’ve started facilitating these sessions, both of us haven’t needed to go to a doctor because just being these sessions keep our mind and body in balance.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in balancing your roles as a mother, sound healer, and artist?
Actually all these roles have kind of fused very seamlessly because like I said I work with people who are extremely kind and empathetic and they understand that my daughter always comes first So there are many times when she’s with me in sessions and I think it’s beautiful that she gets to experience this at such a young age So yeah, it’s merged pretty effortlessly and the artist in me also gets space to be very creative with the meditations that I facilitate and even the whole soundscape is a very creative process So I find this work to be extremely fulfilling.
How do you incorporate your background in acting into your work with sound healing?
I do actually draw upon my acting and dance experience when it comes to the sound healing sessions because before we actually go into the sound bath there are often certain movement based exercises or meditations that we do in order to open up the body and get people to just be a little more open free and relaxed and I use a lot of techniques that I learnt in acting workshops to help with this so I do integrate my acting and dance background into this as well.
How do you see sound healing evolving in the future?
Sound healing is the medicine of the future for sure. In fact our ancestors used it centuries ago and then somewhere along the line we kind of forgot about it. Like I said earlier my daughter and I haven’t been to a doctor in over a year now. Whenever she falls sick I only use sounds to help her. I’ve also used sounds for her friends. Children, especially, being so open and receptive are able to absorb these sounds. It works wonders on them. There’s a lot more research happening in this area now. I feel like we are on the cusp of like a very exciting time when it comes to using sounds as medicine or therapy not just for physical ailments but also for mental health concerns. It’s obviously therapy without absolutely any side effects because everything in nature vibrates at a certain frequency and everything even in our body from every cell to every organ vibrates at a certain frequency. So, if you’re able to match that frequency with a sound that’s what facilitates healing. I really feel people are becoming more receptive to alternate modalities of healing. I am very excited to spread the knowledge and help out as much as I can and touch as many lives as possible.
