Kislay Dutt: Success is when professional growth and personal values are in sync

Actor Kislay Dutt, recently seen in Office Office Chali Mussadi Ki Beti, has also been part of projects such as Dev DD, Oye, It’s Friday, Mere Hum Dum Mere Dost, and Run Bhola Run. As Dussehra approaches, he reflects on the personal battles that have shaped his outlook on life and his acting career.

One habit he has consciously worked on is overthinking. “But over the years, I have learned that not every situation needs a reaction, and not every question needs an immediate answer. Sometimes, patience and silence are the greatest strengths,” he said. He is learning to choose his battles wisely while protecting his peace and staying true to his values.

His journey as an actor has also taught him to handle uncertainty and rejection without letting them affect his self-worth. “One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that you should never allow a difficult phase to define your worth. Every experience teaches you something, whether it brings success or disappointment,” he said.

The value he would most like to see return is sincerity, both in relationships and professional life. “You may not always get the same sincerity in return, but that should not change who you are. For me, being genuine is not a weakness; it is a strength,” he said.

Playing morally complex characters has also influenced how Kislay understands people. He believes actors must look beyond labels and explore the motivations behind a character’s actions. “Playing different shades of grey has taught me that every person has layers, and understanding those layers is essential, not only for an actor but also for life,” he said.

As his career progresses, Kislay wants to grow professionally without losing sight of who he is beyond the camera. “I believe success should change your circumstances, not your character. For me, real success is when professional growth and personal values go hand in hand,” he said.

Looking back at his biggest personal victory, Kislay points to overcoming self-doubt and continuing to move forward through uncertain phases. “I have learned that winning does not always mean defeating someone else. Sometimes, victory means becoming a better, stronger, and more peaceful version of yourself,” he said.

He sees this as the true message of Dussehra: “And I think that is the true spirit of Dussehra; the light within you must remain stronger than the darkness around you,” he said.
