The film To, Ti Aani Fuji has been officially selected for the prestigious 24th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF). The film will have its world premiere in the festival’s esteemed Marathi Feature Film Competition section. It is also competing for the Government of Maharashtra’s Sant Tukaram Best International Marathi Film Award, marking a significant milestone in the film’s journey.
Shot across Japan and India, To, Ti Aani Fuji is a rare and distinctive Marathi romantic film. Japan is not merely a backdrop or exotic location here; it unfolds as an emotional landscape that mirrors the inner distances between the characters. The film explores how relationships transform due to distance, time, and shifting emotional realities.
The narrative reveals how a relationship that begins with intense passion gradually turns toxic because of changing priorities, conflicting temperaments, unrealistic expectations, and the passage of time. When the two meet again in Japan seven years after separating, old wounds, unresolved issues, buried emotions, and unfulfilled desires resurface. As time-altered individuals, can they rediscover the love that once faded between them?
Writer Iravati Karnik has previously penned acclaimed films such as Jhimma and Anandi Gopal, while director Mohit Takalkar has helmed films like Medium Spicy, The Bright Day, Chirebandi, and Occasional Reflection on the Contingencies of Life.
With this film, Lalit Prabhakar and Mrinmayee Godbole come together on screen once again. After their much-discussed pairing in the 2017 hit Chi Va Chi Sau Ka, the duo returns with a performance marked by ease and emotional depth.
The film is produced under the banner of Platoon One Films by Shiladitya Bora, known for films such as Bayan (Toronto International Film Festival 2025), Ghaat (Berlinale 2023), and the National Award–winning Picasso. The production continues Platoon One Films’ commitment to supporting distinctive, director-driven cinema.
Speaking about the film’s PIFF selection, producer Shiladitya Bora said, “I was deeply moved by one line—‘What if our memories of the same relationship are different?’ This question lies at the heart of the film. Two people can share the same relationship and the same moments, yet preserve those experiences differently. As time moves on, love changes—sometimes it breaks—not because it was false, but because memories, priorities, and personal worlds begin to diverge. This film reflects on how Marathi cinema can expand its horizons and cross boundaries. From the stark realism of Ghaatto the quiet, introspective world of Picasso, Platoon One Films has always attempted to create cinema with a distinct voice. To, Ti Aani Fuji is the next story in that journey, told in a new way. We are delighted to present it at a significant festival like PIFF.”
Director Mohit Takalkar said, “Being selected for the Marathi competition section at the Pune International Film Festival is immensely satisfying. Every year, Pune eagerly and thoughtfully awaits this festival—it is a cultural moment in itself. At PIFF, films from different countries cross linguistic boundaries and engage in dialogue with one another, which gives me great joy. This film is firmly urban and rooted in contemporary Pune. The characters do not resolve questions with easy answers; they assert their emotional unrest and stubbornly hold on to it. The narrative is not straightforward—it reflects the complexity of fractured inner worlds. Instead of neatly resolving emotions, the film has the courage to remain within discomfort. There could not be a more fitting platform than PIFF for the film’s first public screening. I am grateful that this film will first be presented to an audience that is thoughtful, questioning, and willing to engage with discomfort.” He added that the film was made possible by an experienced, sensitive, and creative team, where every element—from performances to visual design—helps unfold the characters’ inner journeys.
Speaking about her role, Mrinmayee Godbole (Jhimma, CRD, High) said, “For me, this character is an accurate portrayal of today’s woman. She strives to balance love, autonomy, and responsibility. I’m happy that the film is being screened at PIFF and am eager to see the audience’s response.”
Lalit Prabhakar (Anandi Gopal, Zombivli, Smile Please) said, “This journey has been very important to me. It was challenging at many stages, but equally fulfilling. I am grateful to everyone who believed in this film till the end. That it is premiering at the Pune International Film Festival—where audiences will experience it for the first time—makes it especially meaningful and satisfying.”
To, Ti Aani Fuji looks at love, separation, and reunion after time has passed through a deeply personal lens, prompting viewers to reflect on relationships they have lived, lost, or forgotten.
