The upcoming episode of India’s Best Dancer Season 5 on Sony Entertainment Television, celebrating India Wala Dance, will witness an emotional and nostalgic moment as Madhuri Dixit, who will be seen portraying her character in Maa Behen, reflects on her childhood, family values, and journey to stardom after being shown a special video celebrating her life and career. Moved by the tribute, Madhuri shared heartfelt memories from her growing-up years in Mumbai’s JB Nagar, speaking about the close-knit community, simple joys, and the lessons that continue to shape her outlook on life.
Responding to host Harsh Limbachiyaa’s request to look back on her journey, Madhuri first reminisced about the warmth and togetherness that defined her childhood neighbourhood.
Madhuri Dixit stated, “Itni saari memories hain. I was growing up, jo neighbours the woh bhi family members hua karte the. Kisi ke ghar mein khana khana hai, hamare ghar mein aa jaate the. Hum bacche kisi ke ghar mein chale jaate the, ‘Aunty, aap pakode banaiye, aapke bahut pasand hain humein.’ Woh jo relationships the, amazing the. Kyunki ab aise gharon mein rehte hain jahan pata bhi nahi hota aapke neighbours kaun hain. Ek family jaisa atmosphere tha JB Nagar mein, woh bahut kamaal ka tha. Bacche saath khelte bhi the, pitte bhi the saath mein sab log. It was amazing.”
Reflecting on the carefree days of her childhood, Madhuri spoke about finding happiness in the simplest things and the strong sense of community that surrounded her growing up.
She further added, “Kuch tha nahi zyada hamare paas, lekin khushi bahut thi tab bhi and we used to be so happy all the time. Ek building mein baarah-terah bacche the, saath mein doosri building mein se sab mila ke tees bacche ek saath khelte the. Mummy ko pata bhi nahi tha hum log sab kahan hain. Daant padti thi ghar aake, ‘Kahan chale jaate ho, batate bhi nahi ho."
Actress Madhuri also looked back at the beginnings of her dance journey and the life changing years that followed as her career took off.
Madhuri shared, “Dance maine wahan shuru kiya tha pehle. Main jab teen saal ki thi, wahi pe JB Nagar mein dance school tha. Dance karna shuru kiya. Itni saari memories hain wahan. Meri pehli film jab release huyi, Abodh, tab bhi hum wahan the. Tezaab ke baad phir hum log nikle wahan se kyunki wahan security nahi thi, toh phir baad mein mushkil hone lagi. After Tezaab, koi bhi aa jaata tha ghar pe. ‘Madam ne bulaya humko,’ suitcase saara leke aa gaye the.”
Ending on a deeply personal note, Madhuri explained how her upbringing continues to influence the way she views success, happiness, and life itself.
She concluded, “Lekin aaj bhi main JB Nagar ke baare mein sochti hoon, khushi ka ek feeling aata hai, ek smile aata hai. I am from a very lower middle class family, lekin phir bhi hum bahut khush the. People ask me, ‘Success hai aapka itna, aap itne down to earth kyun hain?’ Kyunki maine bola ki mujhe pata hai ki kuch nahi ho toh bhi you can be happy. Aur aaj hai sab kuch toh khush hain, toh khushi hai, lekin nahi hai bhi toh kya hai usmein? Khushi toh apne upar hoti hai. We should always be happy, always be respectful and always enjoy life. Don’t change anything else.”
