Mukul Harish, who plays the role of Varun in Rajan Shahi and Deepa Shahi’s Anupamaa, which is produced under their banner Shahi Productions Pvt Ltd, feels adding new twists is very important to a show.
He said, “We constantly try to do everything possible to keep the show interesting for our viewers. These twists definitely add a new pace and energy to my performance—they push you to stay alert, present, and fully invested in every scene.”
“We live in a very fast-paced world today, and sudden narrative changes are important to keep the storyline engaging. As actors, it’s our responsibility to adapt and give our best to the viewers. So I’d say it’s a bit of both—exciting and demanding,” he added.
His approach to scenes when the story takes a sharp, unexpected direction is quite simple. He said, “Either you convince me, or I convince you about how and why this is happening.
But even if you don’t convince me and want me to do it your way, I’ll still do it—because that’s my job as an actor.”
Mukul feels that it is important for actors to be adaptable in such scenarios. He said, “Adaptability is key when the story keeps evolving at this pace.”
But which kind of twist—emotional, dramatic, or shocking—does he prefer the most? “Any twist backed by strong storytelling and solid reasoning lands beautifully. But if I really had to pick one, I’d say emotional twists—they connect deeply with both the actor and the audience,” he said.
He concluded with a little spoiler from the show. “Varun’s journey is going to be really exciting going forward. Expect drama, love, conspiracies—and a lot more. And most importantly, expect the unexpected,” Mukul added.
