Swar Gandharva Sudhir Phadke, a name resonating in every Maharashtrian household and heart, transcending language barriers as a revered Marathi and Hindi singer and composer. For over five decades, he has captivated audiences with his voice and music, satisfying their ears and souls alike. With his soul-stirring melodies in Geet Ramayan, he immortalized the character of Babuji in the hearts of Marathi people. Now, the biopic of this beloved figure, narrating the life story of Swar Gandharva Sudhir Phadke, is set to hit theaters on May 1. A grand trailer launch event was held on the eve of Ram Navami, graced by the presence of Raj Thackeray. The film’s team, along with other dignitaries, attended the event, which also offered a glimpse of the melodious songs from Geet Ramayan.
This film promises to be the most magnificent musical biopic to date, offering viewers the chance to experience anew the countless timeless melodies sung by Babuji and other legendary artists. With a total of 27 songs, the film will immerse audiences in the world of music. Produced by Saurabh Gadgil under the banner of Redefine Productions and co-produced by Yogesh Deshpande, the film boasts a stellar cast, including Sunil Barve, Mrunmayee Deshpande, Sagar Talashikar, Milind Phatak, Adish Vaidya, Sukhada Khandkekar, Apurva Modak, Avinash Narkar, Sharad Ponkshe, Uday Sabnis, Chinmay Patwardhan, Nikhil Raute, Vibhavari Deshpande, Dheeresh Joshi, and Paritosh Pradhan. Yogesh Deshpande has directed the film, which also features his contributions to the story, screenplay, and dialogues.
During the trailer launch, Raj Thackeray expressed his delight, saying, “I did not have the privilege of personally interacting with Babuji, but my father and Babuji shared a close bond. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to meet him in person. Perhaps this opportunity will come through Sunil Barve. All of Babuji’s songs are timeless. Their specialty lies in rejuvenating someone. I am confident that this film will receive the audience’s love and appreciation.”
Director Yogesh Deshpande added, “Today is a very joyous day. With the presence Raj Thackeray, this event has become even more beautiful. The Phadke and Thackeray families have a very close relationship. Sudhir Phadke’s contribution to the music industry is unparalleled. However, his journey to this point was quite challenging. His wife, Lalitabai, and GD Madgulkar accompanied him on this journey. But many others supported him along the way. We have made efforts to portray this fascinating journey of their musical camaraderie through this film.”
