Navratri 2026: Is It Auspicious To Start Something New During These Nine Days? Astrologer Ashutosh Clairvoyant Explains

Navratri is considered an auspicious time for new beginnings, with many people choosing these nine days to start a business, buy a vehicle, join a new job or take important decisions. However, according to astrologer Ashutosh Clairvoyant, not every new beginning may be equally favourable during this period. He believes that while Navratri 2026 offers opportunities for growth, people should also consider the nature of the decision and avoid acting in haste.

“Of all the questions that come to me before Navratri, this is the one I hear most. People want to know whether they can open a shop, join a new job or plan a roka during these nine days. The answer is yes, mostly, but this year, it also depends on what exactly you are starting,” says Ashutosh Clairvoyant.

Explaining why Navratri is associated with new beginnings, the astrologer says the festival marks a shift from remembrance to action. After Pitru Paksha, the arrival of Goddess Durga is seen as a time to focus on growth, positivity and new efforts.

“Navratri represents effort, determination and the victory of good over evil. The nine nights of Goddess Durga’s battle with Mahishasura remind us that success takes time and patience. The festival ends with Vijayadashami, which is considered one of the Sade Teen Muhurat. Many families choose this day to start a business, buy a vehicle or bring home gold. Navratri is a good time to begin something, while Dussehra is especially significant for taking that step towards success,” he explains.

Speaking about the planetary positions during Navratri 2026, Ashutosh says that Jupiter’s placement supports activities related to education, knowledge, learning and long-term growth. At the same time, he advises people to be careful about impulsive decisions.

“Jupiter is exalted in Cancer during this period, which is favourable for learning, gaining knowledge, teaching and building wealth gradually. Mars is also in Cancer, and its association with Jupiter points towards courage guided by wisdom. In simple terms, actions taken with patience and proper planning are more likely to be beneficial than decisions made in anger or excitement. I would not recommend starting a legal battle or leaving a job in frustration during this period,” he says.

The astrologer also points to Venus being retrograde as a reason to think carefully before making major decisions related to love, marriage and luxury purchases. According to him, this period may be better suited to revisiting old plans and creative projects rather than rushing into something completely new.

“Venus is associated with love, marriage, beauty and creativity. When Venus is retrograde, it is a good time to revisit an old creative project, reconnect with someone or renovate something you already have. However, I would advise people to be cautious about making fresh romantic commitments or spending money only to follow a trend. Think about what you genuinely want rather than what looks attractive at the moment,” Ashutosh shares.

When asked which activities are favourable during Navratri, he says that education, learning new skills, spiritual practices and business-related beginnings are among the options people can consider.

“If you have been planning to start a course, learn music or Sanskrit, begin a daily spiritual practice or complete a certification, this is a good time to take that first step. Children starting a new class or sport can also benefit from a fresh start. Opening a shop, launching a website or expanding an existing business can also be considered, provided the timing is chosen carefully,” he says.

Ashutosh adds that people planning to join a new job can consider doing so during the earlier part of Navratri. He also says that buying gold, a vehicle or booking a property remains a traditional choice during the festival. However, he advises people to read documents carefully before signing any agreement.

“Buying gold, a vehicle or booking a property during Navratri is a tradition followed by many families. There is no reason to rule these things out this year. However, when it comes to property papers or business agreements, read every detail carefully. Saturn’s retrograde position is a reminder not to ignore pending work or overlook the fine print. Also, avoid buying things simply because they are trending. Think about their long-term value,” he says.

While Navratri is associated with auspicious beginnings, the astrologer recommends waiting before planning weddings, engagements and formal housewarming ceremonies.

“Chaturmas continues until Devuthani Ekadashi, and many families traditionally wait until then for weddings. With Venus retrograde as well, I would advise people not to rush into marriage-related commitments. Similarly, booking a house or paying a token amount during Navratri is one thing, but for the formal griha pravesh, it is better to consult a pandit and choose a suitable muhurat. There is no need to rush when a little patience can help you plan better,” he explains.

For those looking for suitable days to begin something new, Ashutosh suggests considering the purpose of the activity while choosing the date. He identifies Ghatasthapana on October 11 as a day associated with home and family-related beginnings, while October 12 may be considered for activities involving trade, travel and vehicles. He also points to October 19, when Maha Ashtami and Maha Navami fall together, for decisions involving long-term commitments. Vijayadashami on October 20 is another significant day for new beginnings.

Concluding his thoughts, Ashutosh says that the larger lesson of Navratri is to combine faith with patience and careful planning.

“Yes, Navratri is a blessed time to begin something new, but that does not mean every decision should be taken without thinking. Even Goddess Durga’s victory came after nine nights of battle. Start what supports your growth, complete the work you have been postponing and avoid making emotional decisions in a hurry. For major commitments, your individual birth chart and current dasha can also make a difference, so it is always better to seek personalised guidance before taking a final decision. Jai Mata Di,” he adds.
