Manoj Bajpayee is having the time of his life, delivering yet another brilliant performance. It’s refreshing to see him experiment with such a wide range of roles this year—he went full-on action mode in Bhaiyyaji Superhit, switched to gripping suspense in Silence 2, and now shines in this layered and introspective role as Joy Bag in Zee5 Global’s Despatch. Bajpayee’s portrayal of a man torn between ambition and integrity is subtle yet powerful, capturing the audience’s attention from start to finish.
Director Kanu Behl’s Despatch is a gripping look into the murky world of crime journalism. Blending a suspenseful narrative with sharp commentary on the ethics of the media industry, the film keeps you hooked while raising important questions about truth and morality.
Behl’s storytelling is raw and unflinching, much like his debut Titli. The screenplay is tightly woven, keeping the suspense alive while delving into deeper themes of morality and human frailty. However, the film misses an opportunity to explore the emotional depths of Bajpayee’s character, particularly regarding his divorce. A deeper dive into what transpired between him and his wife would have added a more personal layer to the story, giving viewers a better understanding of his struggles. It is a slow-burn thriller that rewards patient viewers with a crazy ending.
Special mention must go to Prithvik Pratap, who, despite having only three scenes, makes his presence felt. He handles his limited screen time with ease, leaving a strong impression.
