Writer, producer and actor Palash Dutta who has been a part of films like Mohabbatein, Dhoom and short films like thanks mom, dance of joy and Singh and Sinha is someone who believes in taking real action for the environment.
Talking about global warming and its impact, he says, “It’s a reality today. We are already seeing practical changes – like monsoon setting in early, winters becoming shorter and warmer. I feel we all must do our bit to keep our surroundings clean and plant more trees or small saplings in our societies.”
Palash feels that Mumbai, known as a concrete jungle, is already facing low air quality. He says, “We should not take this for granted anymore. As citizens of this nation, it’s high time we maintain civic sense and responsibility.”
When asked how drastic change can happen, he mentions, “Many NGOs, groups and even my personal friends do regular beach cleaning drives in Mumbai. Every weekend, with support from the BMC and other authorities, they are cleaning the beaches. I’m really impressed by their dedication. It shows how individuals can bring real change.”
Speaking about the rising air pollution levels every year, he says, “Even schools have to shut down because of pollution. I believe schools must teach kids about hygiene, saving trees, and keeping the environment clean. These should be part of regular activities. Also, the government and BMC can conduct fun, interactive sessions in schools to create awareness.”
Sharing what he does as an individual, Palash says, “I always separate dry and wet garbage. It’s important because mixed waste can spread diseases. I also make sure lights and electronics are off when not in use. These habits begin at home, and kids must be taught the importance of saving electricity too.”
On whether celebs can influence the public, he adds, “Yes, definitely. When celebs support the right causes, their voice can create a big impact across the country. Their presence in campaigns through TV, social media, or even theatres can spread strong messages.”
