philmCGI Brings 1970s Delhi to Life in Raakh with 900+ VFX Shots

Pune-based VFX studio, philmCGI, one of India’s leading animation and visual effects studios and a TPN Gold-certified company, has delivered 900+ shots for the investigative crime thriller Raakh. Premiering globally on Amazon Prime Video on 12 June 2026, the eight-part series, inspired by a real-life crime, is set in Delhi, 1978, and follows the chilling investigation into the disappearance and murder of two teenagers.

Starring Ali Fazal, Sonali Bendre, Aamir Bashir, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and Rakesh Bedi, Raakh required a visually immersive and period-authentic recreation of 1970s Delhi. Staying true to its philosophy of “Invisible VFX,” philmCGI adopted a story-first approach, ensuring every visual enhancement blended seamlessly into the narrative while preserving the emotional depth and realism of the crime thriller.

Working closely with the makers from production through post-production, philmCGI undertook on-set VFX supervision to ensure seamless integration between live-action photography and post-production workflows. The studio also utilised LED screen shoots across key sequences, enabling greater visual precision and continuity. The studio also created major prosthetic and blood enhancements, CG environment extensions, rain enhancements, clean-ups, and compositing, all designed to subtly heighten realism without disrupting the viewing experience.

Commenting on the project, Anand Bhanushali, Co-Founder and Managing Director at philmCGI, said; “The power of visual effects lies in enhancing storytelling without drawing attention to the craft itself. From on-set supervision to delivering 900+ shots, our focus was to ensure every enhancement felt seamless, authentic, and deeply aligned with the emotional tone of the story.”, our focus was to ensure every enhancement felt seamless, authentic, and deeply aligned with the emotional tone of the story.”

Adding to it, Arpan Gaglani, Founder and Managing Director, philmCGI said; “Recreating the visual texture of 1970s Delhi demanded precision at every level. Through subtle enhancements across prosthetics, blood work, environments, rain and invisible clean-ups, our aim was to build a world that felt lived-in, grounded, and true to the story.”
