Architects Vipul Parmar and Mayuri Parmar alongside veteran photojournalist Pradeep Chandra inaugurated the solo exhibition Beyond the Shapes by 79-year-old artist Shailaja S. Kamat at Leela Art Gallery, The Leela, Andheri (E). The evening was a warm, familial affair, graced by Kamat’s family, close friends, and members of the art fraternity who came together to celebrate her enduring creative journey and passion for art. The event reflected not just admiration for her art, but also the warmth and affection she inspires in everyone who knows her.
The exhibition, on view till November 2, presents around 25 to 30 works in acrylic and watercolour that capture Kamat’s exploration of urban and natural landscapes. Through her cityscapes and nature-inspired compositions, she delves into the interplay between structure and spontaneity, manmade form and organic flow. With a style that balances vibrancy with calm and precision with imagination, Kamat’s works are both reflective and full of life. Beyond the Shapes stands as a beautiful reminder that creativity knows no age… only curiosity, dedication, and heart.
