Prapti Redkar, who plays Savali in the show Savlyachi Janu Savali, shared a cherished Diwali memory from her childhood. “We used to live in a chawl, and all the friends there would hold a fun competition. Whoever woke up first on Diwali morning would win. There was no prize, just pure joy. We’d know someone was up by the sound of firecrackers, and I won this little contest about three or four times. Then we’d all burst crackers together and visit neighbors for Diwali treats. Diwali in the chawl had its own unique fun and togetherness,” says Prapti.
“Now, I only go back to the chawl to celebrate Diwali with my grandmother who still lives there, but I miss those days of carefree celebration. They were the golden days of my life,” she says.
When asked which festive treat she most resembles, she says, “I am like a colorful firecracker—lively and full of energy. And, like besan ladoo, a treat everyone loves. Wherever I go, people have shown me warmth and affection, and that’s a beautiful feeling.”
