Prapti Redkar: I never expected to be selected for the role of Savli

Prapti Redkar is set to portray the role of Savli in the upcoming show Savlyachi Janu Savli. While speaking about her character, Prapti shared several details. “My character’s name is Savli. She has a deep passion for singing. Since childhood, her father used to say that Savli’s singing is like pure gold. She is very understanding and mature, especially because she had to take on responsibilities at a young age. She has the nature of caring for everyone. Savli is a devout follower of Lord Vitthal and is willing to do anything for him. To Savli, Pandurang (Lord Vitthal) is her closest friend. Despite her dark complexion, people mistreat her, but she never holds ill will towards anyone and always runs to help others. Savli’s family follows the Warkari tradition. Her father’s name is Eknath, and her mother’s name is Kanu. She has two brothers: her elder brother Sukhdev, who is married to Jayanti, and her younger brother Appu, who suffers from a heart condition. Jayanti, Savli’s sister-in-law, despises her. This is Savli’s family.

She adds, “As for how I got selected for the role, it happened when I was working on another show, and I received a call for Savlyachi Janu Savli. I was in two minds about what to do. I decided to go for the audition, and for Savli’s audition, I dressed in a look that suited the character. They loved my audition from the first take itself, but I didn’t keep any hopes of being selected for the role. Then I got another call for a second audition, which they liked as well. After that, I was called for a look test, where we tried different looks for Savli. Eventually, I was informed that I was selected, and I couldn’t believe it. I thanked God, shared the news with my parents, and we decided to keep it within the family until the promo was released.”

Prapti shares, “I still remember when our creative team showed me the first cut of the promo—I was speechless. The direction, shooting, everything was done so beautifully. When the promo was released on social media, I cried. I vividly remember the moment: I was traveling, watching the promo on my phone while on the train. I called my parents and told them there was a surprise when I got home. My parents kept watching the promo late into the night. I received calls from everyone, including my dear friend Ashu, who had promised to thank Swami Samarth if I got the role. She immediately went to the temple to offer her thanks. I am so lucky to have such wonderful people in my life who are always praying for me.”

She continues, “We have also shot some outdoor scenes for the show, and the experience was amazing. We shot in two locations. The promo was shot in a village called Limb near Satara Wai—it’s such a beautiful place that I can’t put it into words. We also filmed some scenes in Bhor, which is nothing short of paradise. No one needs to be told how beautiful Bhor is. We shot during the monsoon season, so the atmosphere was lush and scenic. I missed my parents, but the entire team being together for the outdoor shoot was a unique kind of fun. Most of my scenes have been with Savli’s family. Since I am the youngest on set, everyone spoils me a lot. We all eat lunch together, with everyone bringing food from home. If I ever get delayed in returning home, Gauri Tai, who plays Jayanti, drops me off. My character’s singing teacher is Megha Dhade, and my bond with everyone is amazing. Bhagyashree Dalvi, who plays Tara, has become a close friend, and Saikinkit is also very supportive. Our entire technical team is fantastic.”

The young actor shares, “I began my acting career when I was about 6 or 7 years old. A photographer needed someone to pose for his portfolio, and he told my parents that I had a great smile, so I ended up doing the photoshoot. That’s how my acting journey began. Since then, I have worked in Marathi and Hindi serials, and in advertisements. Now, at the age of just 20, I still have a long way to go. I love acting, dancing, and sports. I have been playing cricket since childhood. I am a national-level gold medalist in kickboxing and practice various types of martial arts. I am also a big foodie and enjoy swimming. If I weren’t in the acting field, I would have definitely been in sports. To all my viewers, I would like to say, please shower your love on Savli and the entire cast. We will leave no stone unturned to entertain you. I’m coming to meet you all in Savlyachi Janu Savli, starting September 16, every day at 7pm, only on Zee Marathi."
