Purva Kaushik: I was afraid whether I would get a lead role again

The new series Deepjyoti, which will start on Zee Marathi from April 13, is all set to meet the audience. In this series, actor Purva Kaushik will be seen in a new role. She shared her experience, preparation, and emotions while portraying the character of ‘Jyoti’, which is completely different from her previous roles.

She says, “I am coming back to Zee Marathi once again with Deepjyoti, and the name of my character is ‘Jyoti’. This role is very different from my previous ones. Jyoti is a very sensible, talented, homely, simple, and sweet girl. She likes to dress up and looks very beautiful. She has two sisters and a brother, and she lives with her mother. Her father is also there, but due to his addiction, she is very angry with him. The audience will definitely like this graceful role of Jyoti."

She shares, “Earlier, I played a character named ‘Shiva’ on Zee Marathi, which was very different and not like an ordinary girl. So I was worried whether I would get a lead heroine role again after that. I also wondered whether the audience would accept me again in the role of a simple girl. But Zee Marathi proved me wrong. So when I got the call for the role of Jyoti, my happiness knew no bounds. That moment is hard to describe in words. This role is completely different from my previous one. While preparing for it, I constantly find myself comparing it with my earlier role. In real life, my nature is quite straightforward. I didn’t have to prepare as much for ‘Shiva’ as I do for ‘Jyoti’. Jyoti is very understanding, delicate, and graceful. To portray her lifestyle, behavior, and simplicity, I have to work very hard.”

Puree adds, “Her way of speaking, behaving, her expressions, the way she looks at things, how she expresses anger, her silence, and her simplicity — all of this is very subtle. Preparing all of this feels like walking a tightrope for me right now. But I am also enjoying playing this role. I have to speak softly, maintain balance in my words, and avoid overacting. Playing a simple girl may seem easy, but for me, it is quite challenging. I am working very hard, and the audience will definitely see that. The promo has received a very good response. However, I still feel a little nervous about the role of Jyoti — about how I will look and how much the audience will like me. But I am giving my best so that the audience will love Jyoti just as much.”

“I am happy that there is excitement among the audience about this role. When we all met for the first time, we had a script reading session, and that’s when we got to know each other. Mansi and Saloni, who play my sisters, are very nice. From the very first day of shooting, it felt like we had been working together for a long time. The entire team bonded really well on the very first day.”
