The first promo of ‘Shiva’ has hit the screens, sparking discussions among the audience. Shiva’s look or her carefree demeanor has captivated everyone. Actor Apurva Kaushik plays the lead Shiva in the namesake serial on Zee Marathi. The show premieres on February 12. We had a chat with Purva Kaushik to understand her role better.
How did you enter the acting field?
I studied at CHM College in Ulhasnagar, Mumbai, India and started performing in plays since then. I ventured into state dramas, commercial plays, and eventually entered the television industry. Theater exposed me to various aspects, and I had the opportunity to work under the guidance of Makarand Deshpande. I have acted in three of his plays.
When did you face the camera for the first time?
I auditioned for the first time in 2010, and that’s when I got my first project through a one-act play. However, due to some reasons, the project didn’t materialize. My first show where I faced the camera was Zee Yuva’s ‘Fresher.’
How did you land the role in ‘Shiva’?
I had been searching for work for months, trying to secure a role as an actor. One day, I received a message on my social media from ‘Jagdamb Productions,’ asking if I could come for an audition. That’s when I pondered if acting was my calling. From there, things progressed, and my journey with ‘Shiva’ began. We underwent several workshops, and I had around 25 costume trials. But when I saw the promo, all the hard work seemed worth it.
When did you learn to ride a bike?
I already had an Activa, but I learned to ride a bike during the workshop. I was taught with great care and attention to detail. Now, I ride an R.X. 100 bike, which you’ll see in the promo and the series.
What was the reaction when the first promo was released?
When I was selected and the workshops began, I didn’t tell anyone. When my family and industry friends saw the first promo, they were extremely happy. I received a lot of positive feedback after people watched the promo.
Tell us about Purva Kaushik’s interests?
I have trained in Bharatnatyam and have a diploma in classical dance. I have a keen interest in reading.
What do you think about ‘Shiva’?
I am excited about exploring new things and learning while doing this role. Shiva is a challenging character, but as her life unfolds, you’ll get to see different shades, which I am eager to portray.
What’s special about this role?
I want to tell everyone that I have admired Salman Khan since childhood. The day Salman Khan’s birthday was celebrated, Shiva’s first look was revealed, and that’s a big thing for me. Some people even told me that Shiva reminds them of Salman Khan from the movie Wanted.
