Raveena Tandon Reveals How a Prank on the Sets of ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ Broke the Ice with Karisma Kapoor

Sony Entertainment Television’s India’s Best Dancer Season 5 is gearing up for the Race to the Finale, as the competition gets tougher and the contestants battle it out for a coveted spot in the grand finale. Continuing to celebrate the magic of dance, the upcoming semi-finale episode will see judge Karisma Kapoor and special guest Raveena Tandon revisiting memories from the sets of the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna, sharing candid anecdotes about their on-set equations, laughter-filled moments, and how their shared love for cinema brought them together despite their differences.

Harssh Limbachiyaa then brings up how the film’s comic moments continue to make audiences laugh even today, mentioning how whenever Andaz Apna Apna appears on television, everyone’s laughter is unstoppable. He asks Karisma and Raveena, “Jab aap film shoot kar rahe the uss time hassi nikalti thi ya nahi?”_ The actresses recall how difficult it was to hold back their laughter while shooting some of the film’s most memorable comic moments. Raveena says, _“Always hass rahe the, har scene pe hass rahe the. Ek aap scene dekhoge jab woh kidnapper wala phone aata hai ki un logon ne itna-itna paisa manga hai and Aamir is on the phone. Woh scene aap abhi bhi dekhoge na, main side mein hass rahi hoon.”

Giving a glimpse into the dynamics on the sets of Andaz Apna Apna, Raveena Tandon recalls the hilarious equations between Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and herself, revealing that they often weren’t speaking to one another despite working together. Yet, she says, their shared respect for filmmaking and love for art helped them put their differences aside and come together as a team to create the iconic film.

Then, Raveena shares an incident from the sets of Andaz Apna Apna that helped break the ice between her and Karisma when they were left tied to a pillar during a night shoot. Raveena says, “Humara ek scene tha jisme hum ek pillar pe bandhe hue hain, peeth peeth se, full raat bhar 9 baje se 5 baje subah. Toh dinner break tha, hum bandhe hue the, raat ka samay tha aur hum thake hue the. Ab in logon ne kya plan kiya, sab ladko ne, chalo ladkiyon pe prank karte hain. Raj ji ne bola, ‘Chalo chalo, sab log dinner break.’ Sab chale gaye aur humein aise chup kar dekh rahe the, hum do log kya karenge? ‘We were like, Open us, open us.’ Raj ji was like, ‘Sab log khaali karo, pura floor,’ and everyone left. We were alone on the floor like this.”

As they waited to be untied, Raveena finally broke the silence by asking, “Juice piyegi? You want juice?” And Karisma responded, “Yeah, I want, I am very hungry. And then they started talking.”

Recalling how they gradually found their comfort zone while working together, Karisma Kapoor then talks about ‘Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori’, the first song sequence they shot at Mehboob Studio and among the first sequences where all four actors came together. Sharing how the song helped them settle into the film, she says, “Hum chaaro naye-naye the and we were all so nervous at that time, shooting with Raj ji. It was so much fun to do that comedy song, but aisa gaana karna tough hai; it’s not easy. Ye gaane ka pace hai, phir hume comedy karna tha, keep the energy going, the flow going. Ye humara settling-in gaana tha.”_ Karisma recalls the fun they had on set and calls Andaz Apna Apna a great learning experience, saying, _“Everybody was so busy working, fir bhi humne bohot maze kiya hai. Jo bhi comedy scenes the, look at the timing, it was amazing. I think ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ was always a great learning experience.”

From their first song sequence together to the candid equations and unexpected moments that shaped their experience, Raveena and Karisma offer a glimpse into the making of ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ and how their shared respect for the craft helped them create a film that continues to be loved by audiences.
