Kylian Mbappé is, finally, a Real Madrid player. Los Blancos made the formal announcement tonight, just days after their 15th European Cup title win in London.
Mbappé lands at the Santiago Bernabeu after seven record-breaking at Paris Saint-Germain, where he won six Ligue 1 titles (adding to the first he won with AS Monaco in 2016/17) and four Coupe de France titles. The France captain, still just 25, is in the prime of his career and is also trophy-laden at international level too, wining the 2018 World Cup and the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
The Paris-born star is already one of the best players on the planet, and his arrival in Madrid sees Real Madrid double down on strengthening what is already one of the best attacks in world football. Mbappé has proven most effective playing out wide on the left and cutting in with great pace, a style of play which is very similar to another of Real Madrid’s big stars and a candidate for this year’s Ballon d’Or: Vini Jr, who’s now scored in his last two Champions League finals. How coach Carlo Ancelotti decides to use Mbappé, who joins not just Vini Jr but also the likes of Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz, will be fascinating to track in the coming months.
Mbappé will also link up with some very familiar faces in Madrid, including Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, his teammates for the French national team. Friendly faces in a squad which is not letting up in its quest to continue winning trophies, and now retaining its LALIGA EA SPORTS and Champions League titles. Most definitely, watch this space.
