Dussehra is celebrated as the victory of good over evil and is considered an auspicious occasion to pray for strength, prosperity and new beginnings. Many people follow traditional rituals on this day, seeking blessings for success in their careers and personal lives. Astrologer, tarot card reader, crystal healer and numerologist Rinhee Suberwal shares some rituals that people can follow on Dussehra and explains their significance.
Speaking about rituals believed to help remove obstacles and bring positive changes, Rinhee says, “Reciting the Ram Raksha Stotra and the Hanuman Chalisa is considered very auspicious. Chanting the Sita Ram mantra is also beneficial. These prayers help people connect with their faith and seek divine blessings.”
She also suggests a simple practice involving peepal leaves. “Take five, seven or eleven peepal leaves, write or chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ for each leaf and offer them to Lord Hanuman. This is considered an extremely auspicious practice,” she shares.
Dussehra is also regarded as a favourable day to begin something new, make important decisions or take a step towards a new chapter in life. However, Rinhee believes that people should approach religious and astrological practices with faith and a clear understanding of their significance, rather than following them out of fear or blindly believing in every claim associated with the festival.
Talking about a simple ritual that can be performed at home to seek Goddess Durga’s blessings, she recommends praying and chanting the Sita Ram mantra. She also mentions a traditional method of *nazar utarna* using yellow mustard seeds, red chillies and salt, which are burned afterwards. This practice is traditionally believed to help ward off the evil eye.
According to Rinhee, Dussehra is an opportunity to strengthen one’s faith, leave negativity behind and move forward with positivity. Whether through prayer, mantra chanting or traditional rituals, the festival reminds people to focus on good intentions and make a fresh start with confidence.
