Rinku Dhawan, who is currently seen in Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta’s Udaariyaan, says that she loves the way her journey has panned out. She adds that she has been part of the industry for the last three decades, and has loved each project of hers. “I think it’s been a very beautiful one from my first serial, from Br Chopra’s Kanoon, playing a very prime role in the show. And now it’s been kind of almost 30 years and each role that I got hence from there till date has been very strong roles, strong characters, very performance-oriented. And so it’s been a very great journey to look back at and to look forward to also. So, I’m grateful to the industry and the people for making it so beautiful for me,” she says.
She adds that you need to have a strong resolve to do well in your career. “I agree that the need to excel is very important in our career. I always think and believe that I am in such a beautiful industry where I am given a role, and a character to play, and I see what its expressions and thoughts could be, how its gestures should be. When I am in front of the camera, I perform to show myself to the world, and to the audience, to receive both criticism and appreciation. And I get makeup to look pretty; costumes and everything else enhances the character with beautiful scripts, beautifully written dialogue, I am allowed to portray a story in front of the audience. But I am a character in that story, and I have to perform my role convincingly, with as much excellence as possible, as deeply as the writer might have thought about it. So I feel that what I bring to the table as an actor cannot be monotonous; it has to be different because that is exciting for me. So definitely, to excel in whatever way we can is extremely important to keep going ahead,” she says.
Talking about opportunities, she says that she makes sure to weigh the pros and cons of each. “Well, I do give it a thought. I do think about it. I discuss in detail with the creatives, with the makers, so that I am sure if I am doing a particular role, I have to be very convinced to do it, and not just because an opportunity came and I jumped on it without thinking. And then later realize that I shouldn’t have done it. So, no, I don’t do that. I just don’t jump onto the opportunities, but I do think, talk, process the whole thing about the character and the show, and then take my decision,” she says.
However, it can be confusing when two opportunities come simultaneously. “Oh, this always happens to me that whenever I do one thing, twelve, no, thirty-four other things come along! (laughs) And all of them are equally amazing roles. So, it’s definitely a situation where sometimes you feel overwhelmed, but I would say I have come from the time of Doordarshan, and honestly, back then, during Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki time, we actors used to do two, three, four daily soaps simultaneously. The production houses and everybody would ask the artists, as we were freelancers, and we used to work on three to four different projects at the same time. But nowadays, there is a lot of demand for exclusivity because of the way things go. So, I do miss that time where I had the opportunity to play three different characters on three different shows at the same time, and it was amazing, it was really challenging and amazing,” she says.
