From gracing the historic landscapes of Tanhaji to delving into the emotional depths of Luv You Shankar, she seamlessly transitions between her professional roles as a dentist, entrepreneur, and actor. In an exclusive interview, Dr Elakshi shares insights into her latest venture, her experiences in the world of cinema, and her unwavering commitment to her craft.
Tell us about your role in Luv You Shankar.
In Luv You Shankar, I play the mother of the child actor played by Mann Gandhi. The film revolves around a young family living in the US who returns to Benaras, India, as their child starts experiencing flashbacks of a previous birth. My character is a caring and concerned mother, troubled by her son’s inexplicable experiences.
Your range of films is quite varied. How do you decide on projects?
Tanhaji offered me the opportunity to delve into a historic film, and portraying Soyarabai, the wife of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was a fulfilling experience. Similarly, in Luv You Shankar, I play a nurturing mother, a role I could easily connect with, given my own loving and caring nature. For me, the key factor in choosing projects is the quality of content and the depth of characters. The age or length of the role is secondary; what matters most is the positive impact and meaningful message it conveys.
How was the experience working with Shreyas Talpade?
Working with Shreyas Talpade was a delightful experience. Despite having just one day of shooting together, Shreyas proved to be a warm, dedicated, and hardworking individual. His humility and commitment to his craft were truly inspiring.
How do you balance work, your entrepreneurial projects, and personal life?
Balancing my profession as a dentist, managing my own clinic, and overseeing my entrepreneurial venture, Ela Nail and Spa in Balewadi, is indeed a juggling act. However, my passion for modeling and acting since childhood has been a driving force. When you truly love what you do, it never feels like work. I find fulfillment and energy in pursuing my passions, making the balancing act seem effortless.
What are some of your forthcoming projects?
I recently wrapped up shooting for Morarbaji by Ajay and Aniruddha Arekar (Almonds Creations), the makers of Pawankhind, where I am blessed to portray Soyarabai once again. Additionally, I completed filming for the Marathi film Bhram, directed by Vaibhav Londhe, featuring Abhijit Amkar and me in lead roles. Periodic films like these resonate with me, and I look forward to sharing these projects with the audience.
