Sara Khan: No one is living in the real world anymore

Sara Khan, who has been part of shows like Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai, Preet Se Bandhi Yeh Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Junoon – Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq, and Sasural Simar Ka, to name some, feel people are living life on social media now. She said, “People are racing to prove they are happy, wealthy, and beautiful. No one is living in the real world anymore.”

Though she agrees that even she went through a social media fever phase, until the day she realised that what she was doing was only to please others.

“I have changed myself completely for the betterment of myself. Till I had social media fever, I didn’t realize I wasn’t being normal, and one day I just felt, What am I doing and why am I doing this? I got my answer, and hence I live for my happiness now and not to please anyone,” she said.

“I am grateful for what I have, and I’m not running for more. I want to live this beautiful present I am in. I don’t want to spoil my day by trying to make my future better or urging me to get more and more,” she added.

Sara also stressed that, though materialistic pleasures have received much attention due to social media, people have always been materialistic. She said, “The world has always been materialistic, and now they live to show others how wealthy or beautiful they are. Showing happiness and living a happy life are two different things. All of us are only running towards buying more, saving more, and forgetting to live in the present.”
