Sharayu Sonawane, plays Paru in Zee Marathi’s show titled the same. Sharing the story of Paru’s audition, Sharayu says, “I received a call informing me about the role of Paru for an audition, and I immediately said yes. Later, I realized that I was the last girl on the audition list. If you were to see Paru’s look, she is a girl from a village who wears ‘Parkar Polaka’. On the day of the audition call, I was out for work. I immediately informed my mother that I needed to wear the traditional outfit and she rushed to Lalbagh from Borivali to get it. However, she couldn’t find it, so she went to Dadar market where she finally found it. My mother shot the audition on her phone.”
Sharayu credits her mother for bagging the role of Paru. “Her hard work and blessings made the audition excel. My family, relatives, and friends were thrilled when they saw Paru’s promo, and they were even happier to know that I’m portraying a Marathi character because Zee Marathi’s characters have a special place in people’s hearts. Everyone is extremely happy, and I receive great feedback on social media.”
In the show, Paru has a good friend, a goat, named Vaiju. Paru keeps her name as Vaiju because she doesn’t have a mother, so her friend is like a companion to her joys and sorrows. “I really enjoy working with animals; I like taking care of them. I feed Vaiju and play with her. Sometimes, when our shoot shifts elsewhere, she tells me that she wants me take her along, and she expresses this with actions. My bonding with Vaiju isn’t just on-screen; it’s a different tuning off-screen. If you ask me about myself, I’m not only an on-screen but also an off-screen artist. I have received training in Bharatanatyam for 15 years. I have performed Yashoda Krishna on stage with Hema Malini.“
Don’t forget to tune in to Zee Marathi from Monday to Saturday at 7:30 PM to watch Paru.
