Hunar is quietly turning into one of the biggest success stories on the film festival circuit this year. The short film, starring Rohit Roy and directed by Sujoy Mukherjee, has once again grabbed major wins, this time at the Cinedreams International Film Festival 2026 in Mumbai.
Rohit Roy picked up the Best Actor award for his performance, while Sujoy Mukherjee won Best Director, adding another proud moment to the film’s already impressive festival run. And honestly, the momentum around Hunar just does not seem to be slowing down.
The film had earlier won Best Social Film at the 16th Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival in Delhi, and has now crossed more than 26 awards at festivals across India and abroad. From Ahmedabad and Nashik to Kolkata and Mumbai, Hunar has been getting strong appreciation pretty much everywhere it goes.
Also starring Madhurima Tuli and Vidhaan Sharma, the film touches on something many families can instantly relate to. It talks about children being pushed toward careers and dreams chosen for them, while their own passions slowly get ignored along the way.
What works in Hunar’s favour is that it keeps things simple and honest. The film does not try too hard to be dramatic or overly emotional. Instead, it lets the story and performances do the talking, which is probably why audiences have connected with it so naturally.
For director Sujoy Mukherjee, the film continues a deep family connection with cinema. He is the grandson of legendary filmmaker Sashadhar Mukherjee and son of actor Joy Mukherjee. Along with filmmaking, he currently manages Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai.
Interestingly, before stepping behind the camera, Sujoy also acted in films like Mehboob Mere Mehboob, Hum Hain Kamaal Ke and Pyar Pyar. His earlier short film Ab Mujhe Udna Hai had also created quite a buzz and won 39 festival awards.
Right now, Hunar feels like the kind of film that is making a powerful impact through its heartfelt storytelling and strong performances.
