An increasing number of customers are going online to meet their festive requirements with spends during Ramzan 2024 growing by 50% as compared to last year’s Ramzan, according to Simpl Checkout Scan. These spends were almost 30% higher than normal for a business month with categories such as food and beverages leading customer spends followed by grocery, travel and fashion among others. Here, merchants including Zomato, Swiggy, Zepto, Blinkit, BigBasket, MakeMyTrip, Redbus and Myntra were the most preferred by consumers across the country.
Interestingly, categories such as food and beverages and travel posted 80% and 87% growth in spends respectively, indicating a growing average order value and increasing preference for luxury travel. Grocery witnessed over 37% growth in customer spends as customers went online to source their varied needs during the holy month of Ramzan. This surge in consumer spending was seen across metros such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru as well as smaller cities including Bhubaneswar, Patna, Jaipur and Indore, in a testament to the growing adoption of internet and quick commerce services across the country.
The Simpl Checkout Scan also revealed that the top 5 spends during the month of Ramzan ranged from Rs 1.3 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh across categories such as services, fashion, F&B, grocery and marketplace. Furthermore, one customer also spent Rs 39,750 in a single day via Simpl’s Instant Checkout, a nearly 60% growth over last year’s Ramzan. Furthermore, a majority of these spends were observed between 7 pm to 9 pm, at the time of breaking the fast.
