Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan produced by Dreamiyata Entertainment, featuring Amandeep Sidhu (Sneha) and Sheizaan Khan (Siddhu), is currently highlighting a powerful and socially relevant storyline that takes a firm stand against the deeply entrenched practice of dowry. The ongoing narrative emphasizes that no matter the emotional pressure, a bride and her family should never compromise on their dignity.
In the upcoming episode, Ganga Mai, played by Shubhangi Latkar, will be seen firmly rejecting the dowry demands made by Sahana’s mother-in-law Kaushalya, portrayed by Gunabi Maan. This pivotal moment is set to deliver a strong message about self-respect, courage, and resilience.
Speaking about the track, Srishti Jain, who essays the role of Sahana and is also preparing for her real-life wedding, shared, “I am happy that our show is taking a strong stand against dowry and giving out a powerful message to the audience about how every parent and bride should be strong and confident enough not to bow down to such evil practices. Also, now that I’m set to get married to the love of my life, I can confirm that our families, close ones, and friends do not believe in the concept of dowry.”
She further added, “Education plays a very vital role. It gives you the awareness to not follow something just because it is an old custom, but to understand the gravity of the concept being completely wrong and realize that it is a punishable offence in our country. I mean, that is something to think about.”
Expressing her personal views, Srishti said, “I personally have always advocated for equality between genders, especially in spaces of cultural and religious constructs, where over a period of time women have been made to seem like some kind of liability, as if we aren’t capable enough as men. Sure, not physically, but physiologically we are the same, and women tend to be better in a lot of fields compared to men. So for me, this whole concept makes no sense. Honestly, I know so many men and boys that are far more of a liability than most women will ever be.”
