Ssujata Mehta, a seasoned performer with credits in films like Pratighat, Yateem, Kanwarlal, Pratigyabadh, Rajlakshmi, and Tyagi, never aspired to enter the film industry. Yet, her remarkable talent and dedication have made her a respected name in the entertainment world.
Ssujata who has also been part of popular projects like Shrikant, Khandaan, Ye Meri Life Hai, Kyaa Hoga Nimmo Kaa and Saraswatichandra began her journey at the tender age of 11, when she started exploring her passion for acting. My intention was always to give my best in whatever I did, with full concentration and focus,” she shares.
Her first taste of success came when she played a cancer patient, while she was still in school. This performance opened the doors to a flurry of film offers, from movies to television serials and stage plays. Ssujata embraced these opportunities.
Despite receiving offers for significant roles, Ssujata’s education remained her priority. “My dad wanted me to complete my education first. I always received appreciation for my work, so I never felt the need to prove anything,” she says, referring to her father’s initial reservations.
Ssujata’s breakthrough came with the 1987 film Pratighaat, which marked a significant milestone. The success of Pratighaat opened up more opportunities, and Sujata went on to act in numerous films, including the memorable Yatim, Kanvarlal,Dharti Putra. Her ability to adapt and excel, whether it was a glamorous song or an intricate mujra dance, showcased her versatility as an actor.
Despite her successes, Ssujata faced challenges in the industry. “My unconventional choices didn’t sit well with everyone,” she shares. Roles that she had proven herself in didn’t always lead to the recognition she deserved. Undeterred, she continued to explore her passion on stage, performing demanding plays like Rashomon, Mansi, Chitkar etc
Now, with the changing landscape of the entertainment industry, the actress is excited about the new possibilities. “The audience’s mentality has changed, and they’re now more advanced and open to different subjects. Her unwavering dedication and desire to explore the depths of her craft are evident. “I want to do good work and explore new opportunities,” she affirms, determined to leave an indelible mark on the industry she once stumbled into, but has now firmly embraced.
